With all the racism, I was curious to know what terbites think of immigrants. There are several overt racists on the board, and I'm beginning to suspect that there are many other "closet" racists.

I am happy to live in a destination country and I love the ethnicity of our major cities. Good food, good culture, interesting people. Most are completely normal and just want to fit in and get on with their lives. Those who are not so inclined are not a problem, as their children will be Canadian, and their grandchildren won't even speak the language of the old country.

I welcome all immigrants warmly, they enrich our culture and make our lives better.
That being said, so long as they have no criminal history, and are not here to suck our social net dry.

We hire an immigrant to paint our house this last summer, been in the USA for 12 years he said...came from I forget, some little middle eastern place...not those big ones the terrorists are from, lol.
He worked his butt off, had a few close family guys to start the prep work. It poured rain while they were replacing some wood, they tried to work in it but then took a break. Rain stop and they went right back on the job. Temp got hot.like 90..kept on going. He show up at 9 am and stay till as late as 8 pm and just took 1 lunch break around 1 pm for 45 mins.
We got prices from a few, he was right in-line, even a bit cheaper than the big white guy firms who would have 7 white boys and do the job in 2 days...it took him 5 days I believe.
Him and his family seem like very hard honest workers.

I just wished that the screening process was more stringent. There are too many incidences of immigrants with criminal records being allowed in.

We had some guy (again can't recall where from, India maybe) he killed his wife and daughter in their condo...nobody knew about it. He lock the place up and flew back home, 3 or 4 days later the police broke the door down since the kid never showed up at school, they find them dead and the police can not get the guy now since hes back in his home country.

All of my local ancestors came over on boats. Some in the 1600's and a few in the 1900's.
So why would I have my beginnings. HOWEVER my family assimilated into society and did not demand that society assimilate to them.

I welcome all LEGAL immigrants. I also agree with the fact that the immigrants should assimilate better to our culture not us bending ours to meet their demands. I would like to say Merry Christmas to people and not have them get all pissy. This country is mainly Christian and we celebrate Christmas (the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ) so if some people are offended because we say merry Christmas then maybe they shouldn't have chosen this country to come to.
