The anti-Christmas campaign is far more noticeable in the U.S. than in Canada, and it in fact is true.

what anti-christmas campaign? nobody is banning christmas

In his 1995 book, Alien Nation, Brimelow argued that the influx of “weird aliens with dubious habits” from developing nations was eroding America’s white Christian “ethnic core,” and in turn, sullying its cultural underpinnings. The War on Christmas was, in his view, a particularly pernicious iteration of the multicultural “struggle to abolish America.”

This is Canada and unless you are Inuit or First Nations, we are all immigrants. I love this coutry and believe that all law abiding, hard working people should be welcomed, the others should stay the hell out!
I beg to differ... The Inuit and First Nations peoples ancestors just got here first, so they are children of immigrants too!

Yes, but that reasoning can only be taken so far. If you want to carry that out to its most extreme, EVERYONE everywhere is an immigrant (except those living in some parts of Africa), since humans first appeared in Africa and migrated elsewhere.

Technically, we are also all relatives of one another.

Your ancestors probably were.
Of course they were. They came from England in the early 1900s and Ireland in the mid 1800s.

That does not make me an immigrant.

An old saying,
When in Rome do what the Romans do.
White men did not follow that advice, otherwise we would have assimilated with the indians and dressed like them, so why shall we demand that from say Hindus or Muslims?

Maybe if the Indians had assimilated us better they wouldn't be living in reserves. Let's not make the same mistake :D

I welcome all LEGAL immigrants. I also agree with the fact that the immigrants should assimilate better to our culture not us bending ours to meet their demands. I would like to say Merry Christmas to people and not have them get all pissy. This country is mainly Christian and we celebrate Christmas (the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ) so if some people are offended because we say merry Christmas then maybe they shouldn't have chosen this country to come to.

Things must have been easier before 1982 Thanks Trudeau.
I couldn't care less if you say Merry Christmas...I say it myself. But don't suggest that I have to believe in your version of the god fairy tale to be a Canadian. This country may have a majority of people from the Christian religion, but few that consider themselves serious Christians (thank God).

Don't link your religion with being Canadian or having some special status. Religion is like a cancer on the world..take a look at Palestine and Israel...the Baltic states, the middle east, India...the list seems endless. Religion certainly kills more people than cancer with all the wars it has caused.

By the way...the reason for the season was the solistice long before there was a political decision in Rome to make it into a Christian celebration. No serious Biblical scholar will tell you that Christ's birth was on December 25. But I have no problem with myths of Jesus or Santa Clause or flying reindeer. As long as you don't use your religion to try to tell other people how to live, how to think, or what they have to believe.

Religion might cause some problems on this planet - some of them big ones. But if most of the 6 billion people on this planet of ours didn't have religion to provide them some sort of guidance on how to treat their fellow man, we would live in a world of anarchy. Religion has and continues to provide a very practical primer on how to live in relative peace. Try to imagine no religion - what do you think could possibly replace it? Seriously - it will be easy to shit all over this posting but if there were no holy books and holy words telling the various masses that a supreme being requires them to treat their fellow man with dignity and respect, what would compel us to be nice to people? Again, no easy outs (ie. common sense, the law), as those are not universal. Religion, as easy as it is to slag, has brought millenia of peace to our planet, as compared to what the world would have been like without some guiding principles from the wisest men of the past.

Slag away.....

No one has mentioned the one really irritating immigrant, someone that comes to Canada and bitches about how much better things were back in the old Country.
Drives me nuts.
Does that make me a racist?

No That does not qualify as a racist
If you had said your immigration policy was
"Twice as many, half as far"

That might be considered racist

I'm all for anyone of any background to go wherever they want. Just treat me with the courtesy, respect, and dignity that i treat you with. That being said, i don't think we or anyone "needs" immigrants. I don't "need" for there to be a constant flow of Pardwinders, Marios, Ackmeds, and Pablos for me to feed myself from the labour of my own two hands. I think there is something to admire in relatively homogeneous countries/regions as well--multiculturalism is not the end-all and be-all, new-wave superior community.

Disclaimer: I am 1st generation (S. European) Canadian--parents came here in late 60s(?).

Just look at the SPs, when EE immigration was up, how many good, hardworking EE SPs were available....

Same applies to the economy as well.

With all the racism, I was curious to know what terbites think of immigrants. There are several overt racists on the board, and I'm beginning to suspect that there are many other "closet" racists.
Why do so many people right away assume that if one is against immigration they are racist?? Here in the USA I oppose immigration. It has nothing to do with racism. It does have to do with issues that would open too many cans of worms to get into here.

...despite the persons self serving denials, it is almost always about racism.

The very fact that you think it would "open too many cans of worms", even in light of the things that have already been said...kinda leans in that direction.

This is an interesting question. Given that our country needs immigration, we should limit it to those who can cntribute to our society and social structure. It makes me crazy when people from other countries come here and try to make little micro versions of their homelands. Really, if your homeland is so wonderful, why don't you just stay there? The other thing that makes me crazy is people coming to Canada and just sucking the social tit.

If you can come here and contribute, come on in...unfortunately we let everyone in and pay for it, literally.
