It doesn't have a SSD drive. It uses flash memory, similar to the iPhone and iPod Nano. I wonder if that memory is faster than SSD's.
According to Powershot, "any 14 year old who knows a little about computers could have known that by reading the specs."

The mac air does use SSD(solid state disc/drive) it simply removes the traditional casing that enclosed the "flash memory" which would be too large to use in such a low profile device.

As does Apple in regards to what they're actually charging for and what a customer is getting.

If the engineering is so great with Apple, why do they have heating issues like any other top that's put to the test?

Same PC based components?

Core i5 burning hot?

We can go on and on, back and forth, basically they're all made with the same components, one is packaged more beautifully with a Unix based system and has a higher price (premium) tag.
You can't deny or refute any of that from being true.

Will be interesting to see one taken apart on youtube to see the design, soldered on?

You forgot gets 5 more hours battery life ;-), but I guess that was just dumb luck on Apple's part.

Without searching right now, I'll assume that's under very minimal settings and little running in the background?
But 5 hours of hotness, can't beat that. ;-)

"Apple apparently doesn’t want you inside this thing. They decided to use proprietary 5-point security Torx screws to attach the lower case."
Ya, to hide all these high end "Apple components" that are so unique to Apple. lol *cough*PCcomponents*cough*
Yes you're right, its just like a clone MDG computer with an aluminum case. I'm surprised some high school students haven't built one out of parts donated to them and duct tape since all the parts are so readily available and used in the industry. Its just your average 2.3 lb slim laptop every manufacturer has released lots of, nothing to see here. The torx screws alone are a sign that this is a horrible piece of machinery, they should discount it $100 since they used those screws.

I really don't know what you are going on about.. Flash memory is what solid state drives store information on.. Solid State = no moving parts.
I'm going on about the fact that djk tried to correct you at the time and me not knowing what PC components the Air has was going under the assumption that he knew what parts it consisted and you didn't.
But it seems he was wrong and you were right, fanbois correcting each other, that's so sweeeeet. <3 :)

My guess is the torx screws are so that nobody messes around with the guts of it, to avoid releasing the so called hounds.
Don't get so overly defensive, these are just opinions. :)

the hobby needs more capitalism
I think the target market here is traveling business man - what does that guy do: email, word, ppt and calendar - and perhaps the odd terb post...... Not much power required there, 2-3 lbs of instant on computing sounds about right.....

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Someone who wants a full laptop experience but the perks that come with the iPad. Long battery life, stronger processor (more than an Atom), instant on, lightweight and portable.

That's their customer. Everyone else will get Macbooks, laptops, netbooks and iPads

Yeah right!
iPad has such a strong processor that it can't even handle Flash or multi-task!.....

Plus you CAN'T change the battery....

It gets multiple tasking next month (before any of the real competitors start selling them) and why would you want to replace a 9-10 hour battery?

Batteries only last 2-3 yrs dependent on usage, then they are shot and have to be replaced. Oh I forgot by then the 'new & fixed up' iPad II will be out for fanbois to jump on ....

More was revealed than just the new Macbook Air. Lion was also show. But from my perspective, Lion is going to be the first Mac OS since 6.0.5 that I will pass on.

And the F**k is with all this social networking integration? Shit man, I don't really want to world to know what music I'm listening to or what dirty pictures I've been taking and looking at!
