What's Less Than 200lbs? (Warning: Unpleasant Images)

I've heard 90% of all diets fail over the long term. People have to make permanent lifestyle changes, - that's the only thing that works.
So true... and that is WHY dieting is useless. The process IS a lifestyle change.... Commitment to proper diet and daily exercise is the only answer. In other words... Live Fit/ LIVESTRONG!

In other words you have to say goodbye to a life of McDonalds, Pizza Pizza and Tim Hortons and say hello to a life of lots of fruits and vegetables and no boxes of cookies sitting in your kitchen cupboard.
In its simplistic form... just cut out all processed "foods".

Say yes to lots of fresh fruits and veggies, whole grain bread products, fresh meat, fish and dairy... stay away from virtually everything that comes in a box. In short shop in the outside aisles. Even so called "health food" such as calorie wise products are crap. Just because it says Calorie reduced, doesn't mean its good for you...

Our bodies were designed to process foods as close to its natural form as possible...

First off...Thank you, everyone, for your support.

Stick with rewarding yourself by bedding a civilian,...You've paid enough of a price for shedding the extra lbs - Time for some payback!
Well given my shyness, I don't think I'm quite ready for that yet...

It will be tough. Sometimes, your mind will be telling you; fuck this when you're working out. Sometimes, you'll want to fold so badly and break your diet.
Actually, I do cheat on my diet, regularly...But the way I look at it is when I crave a cookie, I can give into the craving and have a cookie, or I can resist it and let it grow and eat the whole damned bag. Besides, when I crave a cookie maybe once a week....

Fantastic job, though I have a significant issue with your April 3, 2010 pictures... Why are you wearing Santa Claus underwear in April?
Because outside of my tightie whities, those are the shortest shorts I own. I have only one pair of boxers....

My understanding is cardio is not a good way to lose weight as it burns carbs before they have become fat not the fat

But the best way to do cardio is on a bike or treadmill and stay off those useless machines that use gravity to make workout easier

Get back on treadmill and go high on the HB for a minute then go easy for a minute etc

Best way to lose weight is to build build muscle. Best way is supersets. Get "weight lifting for dummies"

Best way of all is to combine cardio and muscle building through exercise
Body For Life uses a combination of diet, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) cardio, and HIIT weight training, alternating between cardio and weights. So yesterday was cardio, today was my off day, and tomorrow is lower body weights.

About the only thing I really don't like about BFL is that he is a big proponent of nutrient shakes...Of which his company is a manufacturer of...

Premier is $80 per hour the chiropractor was $60
The rec centre's are about $30...

oh, to go with your new found stealth....... TAN
I'll have to say no to a tan. I'm fair skin, fair haired, blue eyed and of Irish decent...I don't tank, I burn. Also, my father's side of the family appears to have a tendency towards skin cancer. My uncle and sister both had spots removed from their faces, and my father died of melanoma. So with that kind of history, I think I'll give it a pass.

Out of curiosity, what was your starting weight and did your blood pressure come down or stay the same?
I honestly don't know what my starting weight was. I know I was 231 back in Feb. My doctor figures I started around 260. As for blood pressure, no idea.

In other words you have to say goodbye to a life of McDonalds, Pizza Pizza and Tim Hortons and say hello to a life of lots of fruits and vegetables and no boxes of cookies sitting in your kitchen cupboard.
I do try to keep dining out to a max of once a week.

And you have to be willing to step on the scale 3 times a week to make sure you're on track and not slipping up.
I try to keep it to twice a week at most...

What are you doing with the food? Do you know how many cals your eating, did you lower your carbs? Are you low fat? 5 times a day? Give me an idea.....
Well I'm neither a calorie or carb counter. I eat 5-7 times a day, if you include snacks (ie apple). I'll have a relatively normal breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus usually two snacks between, and maybe a snack in the evening.

For the diet nazis, I probably east too many carbs...But I need the fiber.

I forgot to add, I have found three down sides though...

Damn, is it cold! I miss the extra insulation.

Ouch, that hurt! The extra padding was nice versus everyday bumps and bangs.

I need a new wardrobe. I've gone from a size 44 pant to about a 38, 18" collar to a 15", etc. Most of my clothes no longer fit properly! Now this is where I was I had a woman's touch in my life. I've been a jeans and smart arse tshirt guy for ages, but I would like a change in fashion...But I have no idea as to what I want. I just know I want something different. Any ladies here care to provide some input on that?

Edit: Another piece of advice sought...Loss that sad tuff of hair on my chest or not. I'm not terribly inclined towards manscaping, but seeing it form this angle that chest hair looks really pathetic. Yay or nay?

Regarding fashion, there's some male-focused fashion blogs. I'm more a GQ type, so if that's the style you like, let me know. Also, go to Google Images and search for whatever types of clothing or styles you like. You will find a ton of suggestions.

Personally, I wouldn't invest in too many clothes until you've hit your ideal weight and can maintain for a bit (say a month or two).

and yeah, when i lost weight, the fashion options are limitless... take a woman(or an SP you really trust and know) and go shopping for a day.
Well the only two women I know that I can take shopping are my mom and sister....One's a 79 year old great grandmother, the other dresses like a well fed homeless person...Right down to the duct tape patches....

So far all I've found look so....gay...

Wise call there.

I went looking this evening, even if it was to just get one article....Hit a couple of department stores and a couple of men's wear...Nothing really appealed to me, or what I saw was "too good" for me. (I'm really not a suit person) Blah, so feeling kinda bummed by that.

Keep at it and don't quit. It's so easy to quit. I would like to loose 20 lbs. and I ride my bike to work everyday when the weather is good. Add to it a 30 minute run on the treadmill when ever I can. I wish I was 19 again, hard to believe I was only 130 lbs back then.

Dave,

The GQ style isn't for everyone. Just keep browsing online. Also pay attention to what male actors in TV shows, movies, etc wear. When you find a style that you like, google that actor or character's name asking what they wear.

If you get nothing in search, use Yahoo Answers at answers.yahoo.com.

oh for goodness sake, stop it. you do not! i'm at timmies at least 10 times a week. i hit mcdonalds at least 5. pizza maybe once every month or so. you need to balance in and out. everybody knows this. if my weight goes where i don't want it to, i eat more or eat less. i work out more or less. it's not difficult. the only hard part is being consistent. once you figure that out you can change your body to be anything (well, almost).

bodybuilders do it for every contest, movie stars do it for certain roles. you can to. if you decide to. it's always up to you. nobody, NOBODY got fat by working out and eating right. please. as for workout suggestions... i have lots but not for the OP. he's doing fine. keep it up. when the results aren't coming, change. good work. and i do envy you all the meals and booze you had to have to build your original body. that must have been fun too. now you can enjoy a different life-style.

What started you off? Spontaneous? An event?
Better grab yourself a drink and a nibble, because this is going to be long.

The short of it is that I got laid...

Assuming you haven't seen my posts before, I have a pretty low opinion of myself. I have also suffered from depression for a very long time. How long you say? Well I remember watching the old Zoloft commercials and laughing that I had been that way for years. I knew I was depressed, but refused to get help for it, because "that's just how it is." (Yay for depression!!) So I spent everyday for the past say 20 years living in the gloomy room called my head...Accepting I'd grow old alone and untouched.

Now I'm not sure what order it happened in but last Oct I stumbled on terb, and my libido got out of control....And I mean out of control. I eventually made an appointment with Mirage's amazonian Britney. Now despite my problems, I did in fact have a good time....And I felt great the next couple of days.

That's when I realized, my life didn't have to be like that....And that I could no longer stand looking at the person in the mirror, both figuratively and literally. About a week later, I started walking. I also approached my doctor about this, so he referred me to a nutrition course and counseling.

Several terb members (*cough*Genevieve*cough*) also told me to speak to my doctor about depression. I did, and I've been on Cymbalta for two months now.

When the walking got bad around the new year, I started swimming at the local rec centre. I made the mistake of buying a full membership, so I decided to start using their cardio machines too, and sought permission from my doctor to use the weight machines back in early Feb.

What keeps you motivated?
Basically, I no longer want to be that Dave. Parts of that Dave are easier to address and change than others (ie shyness), but I hope to work on that too.

The Cymbalta helps immensely as well.

Plus the ability to look back and say "I have dropped this much, what's another...."

I need to know your secret and what you do to keep at it!
Well for starters, KISS and I didn't dive right in. I started with just walking, and adjusting my diet slightly. When I started swimming, I adjusted my diet again. Adjusting it again when I started into the weights. And once more when I started into Body For Life. So each time I've changed my 'work outs', I have also adjusted my diet. But ultimately, I try to do like CG suggested and follow the Canada Food Guide, and be mindful of the junk I eat, and portion sizes.

When I was walking and swimming, I did that every night. When I started into the weights, I'd do cardio every night, and weights every other. BFL has me alternating cardio and weights.

Now I hate harping BFL like some sycophant but (because what he's 'selling' isn't really new, more like just compiled)...But he really emphasizes setting goals in his plan. Well I don't have a goal per say, so much as I have an image I no longer wish to mirror. As well, BFL work outs are set up so that you're at the gym for about an hour each day.

And I have indeed seen results on it, in about 2 1/2 weeks. I've seen my top running speed go from 7.5mph to 9mph, for a minute. (I'm asthmatic BTW) Weights aren't nearly as impressive

I'd prefer something a little more relaxed....

And Larry, no booze, just lots of coke, chips, fast food, and no exercise...

"just lots of coke, chips, fast food, and no exercise."

well, not the way I'd choose to put on weight. But that's the past. You're in the process of getting back some vim and vigor. The bad nes is most people fall off the wagon. It's not easy but you need to find "your" way to maintain motivation. It will lag at some time. The professionals go out and do the job anyway. whether they feel like it or not. we amateurs are always wanting to have fun doing it, or else. and the fitness/diet industry encourages that attitude. what about when it's not fun? you gonna stop? of course, everyone will say no. but most do yes.

weight-watchers knows that journalling works. progress works. support works.
