Citigroup Posts Profit but Misses Estimates; Shares Drop

BTW, the "idiot" who made 2008 commentary was unable to make all of his call right either on Citi last Friday.

Speaking of idiot, looks like the Fed Chair Ben Bernacke is a "nut job" who listened to "talking head" like Cramer by cutting the interest rates to essentially zero for hmm...almost 3 years.

And oh, Ben and Jim are kind of look-a-like.

Wow what an idiot and narrow minded investor you are. First of all Citi missed expectations in the trading area of their book ... equities and fixed income took a hit ... these two areas are fixable. What is encouraging is that loan loss provisions are down, and that Citi is lending again. They also are doing well in their foreign business. We need remember that Citi closed the year with a profit in each quarter, a major turn around for a Company that almost, and actually should have gone bankrupt in 2009. Expanding interest rate margins will only help Citi going forward.

Citi ran up in the days after JP Morgans stunning trading results and while nice for me, this reversal only brings me back to my purchase price and presents a buying opportunity.

Look I recognize that Citi at this stage is a trading stock and not an investment grade stock however I do believe it has potential to become investment grade in the near future, or at least a better chance than most junior miners which are generally the last to explode upwards in a commodity bull and the first to implode in a commodity bear. To me the Citi 5.00 2012 calls are a cheap way to participate in the two area that I think will do the best in 2011 ... financial and technology. Citi is by no means my only play on financials.

Anyways you can disagree all you want but it would be nice if you would put some intelligent thoughts in your remarks.

Again good luck to your Citi option calls. Just to keep in mind Citi is not your SO. ;)

For US Financials, BK is interesting below $31. As for C substitute, a combo of USB/WFC + HBC/STAN looks interesting. For the really risk taker, a combo of STD+STAN would be fun to watch.

BTW, take a look at what your favorite "idiot" says on Citi and STD.

My pick of the year for 2011 is Candente Copper Corp. . Raymond James raised their target price to $3.00 per share after a Pre Feasibilty Report came out this morning. This is after they raised their target price to $2.25 in December 2010. Rumours have it as a target of an acquisition by a bigger Mining Company. CEO is going to a trade show in New York next week and then to the show in Vancouver at end of the month. Takeout price could be anywhere between 5 - 10 dollars depending on what percentage is sold. Raymond James lists it as a strong BUY!

Jan 12 Citi calls down 24% in one day
Thats got to hurt !

Yeah, no risk in unhedged option positions is there?
How would you express that volatility on an annualized basis?
I think that is a pretty big number

I guess that is the price one must pay in order to call himself a sophisticated investor.
(That part makes me laugh)

Yeah I read your self - serving explanation.
I guess its good if you re-assure yourself
No chance of a lesson learned there for you is there?
(E.g Lesson # 1- Its not what you make which is important, its what you do not lose that matters - protect your capital)

Well do not get too bummed out, you will average in & cross your fingers, it might still work out for you.
It is a long term option , so Citi might get its act together in the next year
(Honestly, I hope it does work for you - as I would never wish a financial loss on anyone, only a vengeful, self-absorbed person would do that and thats not me).

Sophisticated investor is somebody who has wads of cash for the hedge fund managers to burn (the hedge fund managers call those cash OPM for a reason).

LOL, sounds like the following Warren Buffett quote,

Rule No.1: Never lose money.
Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1.

Speaking of the Sage quote, these two are classic,

1) At the bottom of the bear market in October 1974 a Forbes article interviewed Buffett. Buffett, for the first time in his life, made public prediction about the stock market.

-"How do you feel? Forbes asked.
-"Like an oversexed guy in a whorehouse. Now is the time to invest and get rich."

(So true in March 2009, better than banging any TDL)

2) I'll tell you why I like the cigarette business. It costs a penny to make. Sell it for a dollar. It's addictive. And there's fantastic brand loyalty.

Hands Down !!! Lately this stock is rising extremely fast & furious.

I got in at 1.82 and now it's well over 6. They have all the rights & patents for the V-Chip (parental controls) . Check out their price history and you can thank me later. *wink*

LOL, enough bragging and take some mad money off the table to lock-in some capital gain.

Again not an expert and not into speculating small cap but it seems this company cash flow is suspect. The patent-infringement lawsuits don't help either.

Perhaps John LaRue could give you better advice but please do your own homework and find qualified professionals before making any decision.

I don't consider Wi - Lan an investment but a speculation. They have nothing tangible, what they have will be desided by a judge or jury. Does't mean it is not profitable, but not an investment.

I jumped in on citi 5.00 2012 calls today when it was trading at .61 cents. I too am a believer with KF1 on this one. I don't understand why all the criticism. KF1, thanks for your recommendation and future outlook for this play.

Aecon Group (ARE) if you believe every dog has its day.

Otherwise, NYX could be interesting.
Hmm...ARE is really a dog and like CSCO, one needs to be very patient to generate capital gain.

In the meantime, Ja to NYX and Nein to brain dead populist politicians in the congress.

So now that citi is doing a reverse 1:10 ,what are that chances it goes to $60 by year end?
My bet is 5%.

Actually quite good. At today's price, it would start at $44.45 and it's "only" $15 to $60. Big presence in emerging markets.
