For the last eight months or so, I've gotten very addicted to Firefox from Mozilla. Tabbed browsing kicks ass, as do extensions. I've got about fifteen extensions installed and they work beautifully.

However, not all pages load up properly in Firefox. My web designer friend says that there aren't bad websites, just bad web designers, because they don't ensure that the pages are presentable in browsers other than IE.

I don't mean to single anyone out, but if you look at Madison's www.mymadisondoll.com , it just shows up as somewhat unformatted text in Firefox while it looks fine on IE, complete with menus and pics. Same sorta thing with www.q107.com

So what browser do you guys use at this moment? And do you think more effort should be put into ensuring that pages load properly on all browsers?

I have been a Netscape user since day one. I think it is great, the new 8.0 is very similar to Firefox. Firefox is good, I just don't like the way the screen looks (small detail and trivial I know), just can't seem to get past it though. For all the great products Microsoft makes, IE just isn't one of them.

After suffering with IE for way to long now it Firefox all the way for me now.

The problem with some sites like Madison's is they use Windows coding that does not meet the W3C consortium that set standards for the Internet. Being so big Microsoft decided it could depart from the standards which most others including Firefox follow. The code on some sites (Java script one big offender - have to use the Sun version) is non compliant so only IE can recognize it since MS broke the standard.

Firefox has an extention to open a page in IE, but is a nuisance to have to open big IE for non complaint sites.

Hopefully the the huge growth of Firefix webmasters will redo their sites and make them complaint.

The new netscape is actually a hybrid of IE and Firefox. It uses firefox code to load pages that are less safe, and uses IE to load those that are verified as safe. This gives the best of both worlds, the safety of firefox, and the compatibility of IE. Firefox was also designed by the netscape people.

I don't see how you cannot be using Firefox. It's more secure, no spyware, open source, tons of features and it has a slick search feature.

I also like Firefox (I always have to look up to see if it's called Foxfire), the only problems were trying to find basic extensions at their site but eventually I got them.
Shouldn't a highlighter tool be on the default list? I use it constantly to find a word or phrase in a body of text.

Svend, if you use the Find function (Cntl + F), you'll find that it highlights the word or phrase that you're searching for.

Thanks happygrump!
It worked!
I already found an extension and put it in the header but this suggestion is useful. I wonder how many other things are built-in without knowing about them?

On my Mac, Safari is my #1 browser. Firefox is next. IE is dead last.
I bought my first Mac (iMac) a few months ago, and find that a ton of stuff doesn't open up or can't be downloaded with Safari.

I am a Mac newbie, so maybe it's just my lack of experience...am I doing something wrong? Or, should I just download Firefox onto my Mac, and disregard Safari? Any advice would be most welcome as I find the Mac a beautiful but frustratring computer.

Safari can be a pain in the ass sometimes. It often won't load certain pages or images. I find the same to be true of IE. Perhaps I should try Firefox?

I've been using Opera for years. It's sooo porn-friendly. I checked out Firefox in its early stages but it lacked one feature I insist upon - an automatic refresh where you set the time it does so.

Has anyone used both Opera and Firefox lately? How do they compre?

Camino, Opera, then Safari.
IE is pure shite.
Safari for Tiger is way to buggy to use all the time between font cache errors and resetting.

Used them both & still prefer Opera over Firefox.
Hardly ever use IE.
Opera has many nice features & as you say is sooo porn friendly... ;)

I tried Opera a few times but just never got comfortable with it for some reason, and went back to IE till I found firefox and immediately liked.

Tabbed windows is to me number one feature (as with Opera and others) but also other nice features. But a hassle with non complient websites.

I have a few business sites I have to log in daily and has to have IE. Can't just use the open in IE since when use auto log in (roboform) takes to an error page. So have to manually launch IE and redo since have firefox the default browser. I wish there was a way to have a shortcut or site on toolbar in its properties settings to set what browser to open with. But don't think there is such an option to override the default (which is firefox for 90% of needs)

The next IE will catch up with tabbed windows due out shortly. IE also has ad blockers and good add on tools via third parties as well as security and spyware blockers. Never had any problems with IE that way. And initially firefox takes just about as long to load as IE. But even whenn IE has tabs I prefer Firefox other than the nuisance I have to deal with on non complient sites.
