For freshness & quality, I always preferred
Bregmann's on Yonge & StClair (Delisle Court) - good portions to.
If you prefer pastry over chocolate, the
Marche franchises are really good and the Yonge/Wellington location goes till 12:30AM. Decadent muffins - not really muffins, but moist coffee cake batter poured into a muffin mould!
Nova Era and the other Portugese bakeries on Bloor West have lots of fine pastries and tarts - that place just west of Dovercourt is open 24 hrs and also serve crepes!
You don't think of Chinatown for deserts, but the Vietnamese places with their Cassava cakes and French-fusion cream puff buns taste great at a reasonable price.
Maison du Croissant isn't as fresh tasting as it used to be - Ireally miss the old place next to BrassRail, but a warm Almond Croissant with unsweetend black coffee is still the next best thing to an orgasm.
Haven't been to Bregmanns or Maison nearly two years now, just don't have the metabolism to afford it
