I get around.
I flew Air Canada twice about 5 years apart. Once to Vegas, and they lost my luggage. Didn't get it until the last day I was there. OTOH they gave me some money and a seat upgrade.
Then a few years later I took a DIRECT flight to Winnipeg - and they lost my luggage AGAIN!

Anyway, posting to ask: Has anyone used Expedia.ca to book a flight + hotel? I'm thinking about it and have to decide this weekend. Price is good but I've read their customer service is mostly automated and next to nil if you want to make any changes once they have your money.

I've never had an issue booking through expedia. But I've never had to use their customer service either. They tend to get the best price in putting together flights.

One suggestion. If you are going to be flying via connection(hub) try to use the same airline the whole distance one way. Most frequent way to lose luggage is to switch airlines mid stream(if you are just carry on its ok). Also leave a minimum of one hour-one and a half between flights. Sometimes with delays and switching terminal...well. Either lost flight or a good workout.....

I would add I once used them to book a flight and hotel to Vegas at 3:30 am and was on the flight at 7:30 am with early check-in at the hotel. Combos work well. If you scoured the net you may save a few bucks but I usually go for convenience when I'm vacationing. A few extra bucks per day is worth it to me.

The CBC finding is based solely at telephone customer service, and wouldn't take into account face-to-face customer service, which is also an important component of businesses.
Face-to-face is extremely important. My local hardware store should be at the top of this list.
