Here is a pic of two guns. You are a police officer responding to a call from a concerned citizen. You arrive at the scene and see a dude with a gun. Is it a real gun or a toy? You have 10 seconds to decide. Guess wrong and you could be dead.

Run around with a phony gun, and you deserve all the things that might happen if you were carrying a real gun.
These replica ("toy") guns look so real. If you were a cop would you bet your life that it is a toy and not the real thing?
I'm not following the story closely, but did Alex Baldwin think he was using a toy gun?

If this is about Alec Baldwin then he is guilt because he did not check the handgun when it was handed to him. The person who handed the guy to him because they did not check to see if the gun was not loaded.
They teach you those things among other things to ensure gun safety.
Also Hollywood is at fault because if they can a Starship to battle aliens they can certainly simulate gun fire.

The correct answer is you would treat both guns as real. Even if they were both replicas, they appear real enough, so you would be justified in taking defensive action, including deadly force if someone were to point the gun at you.
As for Alec Baldwin, all legal arguments I've heard say the legal onus was on the person who was handling the firearm. He will not face any charges for this tragedy. Now, as for a civil suit, he, as a producer on the film, definitely faces legal challenges. He obviously didn't hire competent people to handle the firearms, and the fact the first crew quit because of working conditions is troubling....

The issue with Tamir Rice is that they shot him almost immediately. They didn't even give him time to drop it. Now, I do understand why it happened, but it was something that could have possibly been avoided. If I recall correctly, the officer was
I think we can all agree that police work is difficult. There is always a potential threat of physical harm every time the go out. But at the same time, the training is sometimes lax, and the use of deadly force, which should usually be the last resort, is the first thing some officers do (now, obviously if it was an active shooter, they should sure as hell use force immediately).
