Seeking new home security service and Rogers plan sounds pretty good. Bit higher monthly rates, but definitely more and better service/technology. Would love to hear what people think, pros and especially cons.

Ask yourself this question. Is there anything in your home(possession wise) that can't be replaced by insurance.

If so buy and install a fireproof safe for it. Beyond that it just isn't worth it IMO. They won't get emergency services out to you faster than a 911 call. And almost all house fires are caused by negligence.

But hey, if its worth it for your piece of mind and you have the bucks the pay for it.

I mean no disrespect. If I were a man I couldn't imagine seeking personal protection in my own home from Rogers. Rogers. The cable guys?

Save your money for better things;)

I was doing customer service for rogers earlier in the year and while I didn't deal with SHM myself I did get a training module on it lol.
For people making comments about security, that's only a part of it- the system does monitoring for things like fire and water damage, as well as the 'smart' thing which involves remote control of for example your locks and temperature via apps on your cellphone. You can get cameras with feeds you can check while away if you have animals or children you are concerned about. Or whatever :p

There are competitors for those services, and many can be set up on your own with a bit of technical knowhow. But I know Rogers really wants to push SHM so you can probably get a good deal on it especially if you have other services from them already.

I wish I had hard customer service experience with the system so I could give you feedback, but it did seem like the comparison with competitors was actually favorable.

People want simple, that is why the coffee makers are marketing the one cup brewers, that is why you can get a TV style meal in a boxat the supermarket. The vast majority of people that buy complex packages with all the add ons stop using them within a few weeks or months. If you want you can get a remote camera to see what is going on in your home, you can turn your system on or off by telephone but any add ons you have to pay for. The saleman wants to inflate that 29.95 per month package into a 89.99 per month package. after the first your and having paid over $1K you will regret taking the deal. There is no backing out, you signed and you pay automatically through your credit card. read the fine print, even after the initial contract there is a automatic renewal clause that obligates you to a new term if you do not cancel by registered mail within the last 30 days of the contract. Not before and not after, be sure to cancel in the last 30 days.

Bottom line, you will not be paying the advertised minumum price.

I have the system, I have no issues with the system, and have never had a customer services issue. There was a tech issue once that I didn't even know about it. Rogers works on a couple of systems and one of them was causing an issue. They called me and reported it and fixed it.

I have a great plan because of when I got it and the other services I have. I also moved while having the system and it was not charge to re-install in my new place, I was just asked to bring the sensors, screen, and camera's over or I could pay an small fee for them to disconnect it all. Re-connection was free.

The salesmen who did my initial consult was a dick. He is a pure salesmen but I called in after he left and changed the order to what I really wanted. Not an issue there. The tech that did my set up, gave me his card and I call him when I have an issue. Like the sensor batteries. He makes an appt for me in the system, and then comes to replace them. I don't think that is a real service from them, but I get it. Maybe it is because I have tits. Who knows.

I have not tried other services. You can email me if you have more questions, info@msfemmefatale.com

Good luck.

To those down playing a system, I have teens. This keeps them in check. No parties happen, no sneaking in/out the back window. No opening a window in their room to sneak a cigarette. And no teen friends stealing shit in my home because they think I have camera's everywhere. They don't know any better and I am not correcting their ignorance. LOL

I had huge renovations done lasting months, all the workers were on their best behavior as well.

2 of my neighbors where broken into. It was another neighbors kid and his little gang of friends. They went to bust into mine and it was my system that busted them. All on video, video used in court. Alarm went off right away, they scattered, but it was too late they were busted.

Will this system help if you have a home invasion? No, but please don't down play something because it doesn't suit your needs. As a single woman with kids when I started with this system, to now basically being on my own, it is more then peace of mind. For others with families as well, protection is NEVER wrong.

Rogers system is wireless and wireless is always inferior to hard wired.

For that reason alone, I did not opt for Rogers and went with ADT.

The hard wired system is far more glitch proof, and in my case, no ugly transmitters to be screwed to my 100 year old wood work. Other than the key pad at the front entrance, you don't see a thing with a wired system.

For those who don’t believe in security: Yes, I guess mainly, the home security is for comfort of mind. At same time, if someone does break into your home, no noise vs. loud sounds or whatever else might go off, does make a difference. Especially with kids and seniors in the home. Piece of mind is actually pretty high on the list. You also get discount off home insurance, so I don’t see the big hate over it. If a single guy, I can understand not feeling the need.

Yes there are options of installing cameras in your own home, I have one myself, Dropcam, its great! I would recommend to anyone. BUT that is just camera, and only see. You can’t be watching the cameras 24/7. What I need is something that will make a sound if an intruder comes in and send for help if needed. That is the ‘service’ part I don’t think you can get with an own setup.

Looked into TMC, seem good for 9.99, but depending on what you already have/need, they get you with the equipment. I do not have landline, through VOIP, so with the added fees, ends up about $20/month + up front equipment and installation fees, if needed. And they pay once a year. 1 year contract with 6 mths free. So really 18mths.

I have ready many not so nice things about Rogers, but the bulk of them is more dislike with Rogers as a whole. And not much reviews, recent anyways, of the monitoring service, I did find like 2 good fairly recent feedbacks. I do not recall ever having big issues with them regarding billing/contracts. I don’t think they try to cheat you when moving? (I actually got offered a deal on TV when informing them of moving) Other than the fact that for the same services: phone, internet, there is better deals out there. I will probably switch my TV from them as well once I move.

How much do you pay ADT and other companies. It seems to be close to $30/month for a basic? After my recent issue with Reliance, I am hesitant to deal with any strictly alarm company and I guess that is why I am leaning more toward Rogers.

Agree with MsFemme. Question: my concern right now is the wireless internet part. Do you need constant excellent wireless, like full 5 bars? I won't know how internet is until I move in but I have had wireless in my current home. Hoping the internet won't be an issue in new place.

I read that there is also 2 backups should internet fail. One being I think cell data? that will still transmit and enable the system

Rogers actually uses a wired connection through their internet. Should someone cut the cable, which is the first things burglars do, the wireless kicks in.

I have been thinking of switching to them, but am looking for a new place and will probably get it there.

It's a shame as I am not a fan of Rogers.

Thanks, they are both.

I can not comment on the wireless. Being in the business I am in, my internet is excellent because I need it to be so it was never an issue
