The Liberals scrapped it because it was a ponzi scheme no one wanted or trusted any longer and people had enough of it being forced upon them. If they did not fear losing the election they would not have scrapped it and would continue to increase it and berate anyone who dared to criticize it like they were doing for 6 years.
If it hasn't downed on you the reason why people were criticizing it in the first place was because they knew it did not help the environment.
Their own MPs were crying to Trudeau about getting rid of it in their respective ridings for fear of losing the election.
Deep down I know you understand how badly you've been played but you are trying to save face right now. But it's coming across as brainwashed Liberal talking points. Just wanted to let you know that in case you thought you were fooling anyone other than yourself.
The Liberals explained why they scrapped the carbon tax.
Carney explained that it was ineffective and politically unhelpful.
I have also told you many times that the carbon tax was not even an election issue for me.
I don't care whether or not the carbon tax exists.
I won't care tomorrow if it is brought back.
I only cared that we did not elect maple MAGA into power.
So I would have voted Carney even if he did not pause the carbon tax.
The carbon tax is an issue only for you and other conservatives.
You should care. Because the people you support lied to you about the effectiveness and importance of a tax they just made up and forced everyone to pay until they decided winning an election was more important.
Then they convinced you that Carney was the saviour and you swallowed that.
If you're biggest fear was not electing a "maple maga" then you're fear has actually been realized. You just haven't come to terms with it yet because the Liberals are the masters of deception.

I get a small rebate every 3 months and the tax's impact on inflation is minor.
It is not an election issue for me one way or another.

So it did have an effect, albeit minimal.
Trump's preference for Carney or Pierre is a non-factor.
Pierre's preference for MAGA on the other hand, is a huge factor.

You already answered your own questions. It was imposed forcibly and failed miserably by making life more unaffordable and not achieving anything significant for the climate.
Liberals lied about how it affected the economy and the climate in order to justify continuing with it until they were about to lose an election.
As late as Nov 2024 at the G20 summit Trudeau was peddling lies that even the parliamentary budget officer's report refutes.
