Could you clarify the reasons behind the above mentioned 'changes'?? Are they simply glitches that need to be ironed out, or were some/all of them implemented for a specific purpose??

You may have something to do with updating security. If you recall the problems with the Mods sign ins being compromised....

Dr: There are on/off switches for most of the board features that you see here including WhoisOnline. All of them require server memory to operate. So, say, if the server is overloading or if SysAdmin is working in the background, he may turn off some features so he has more memory to run other programs or tests.drlove said:

but please try not to ask too many questions every time a switch is turned off. It just distracts the SysAdmins form the work they are trying to do.
Fred, perhaps to eliminate alot of repetitive questions, you or one of the mods could post a sticky at the top of the lounge to update everyone on the changes we are seeing?
For example, simply tell us in advance that "hey, you may notice that you can no longer see who is online, this is why it has occurred, this is how you can make it visible again, etc."
Furthermore, if you tell people in advance "hey, if you want to have the search function on this board, it can only be once every 60 seconds", this will satisfy most members. Communication is the key. We just want to know what to expect.

And how come our post counts keep changing? Over the weekend my post count was well over 900 and now it's down in the 850 range. And yet Sheik is now over 6000.
I'd hate to think someone is editing for content and has decided to delete all my useless posts. I'll be back to single digits before long.

True - there is an announcement at the top of every forum: re: Search but I am still getting one email every 5 minutes on average asking me why the search is not working. It took me nearly one hr this morning to respond to and delete all the search and registration related questions. One guy even wanted me to pick a username for him as he " could not think of one".Sheik said:

If you stop replying to repetitive (dumbass) questions, people might start to think on their own.
Part of the problem is that the larger the database the harder the Search Engine has to work to look for info. Post pruning is essential to keep the database operating optimally [ disk space size is not infinite]. Some old threads get deleted from time to time for numerous reasons ( eg: you posted a review on a SP who has retired or the thread is out date (eg: Many TERB party threads, Christmas threads etc etc )

We are getting 2x the RAM this week so things should be back to normal - but you need to understand that terb does 1.5 million + hits some days and members are not charged for their accounts.
