I've been thinking of changing ISP , is cable still faster than DSL?

can anyone tell me how much Rogers/Bell charge if you exceed your bandwidth?

Alternatives to Bell/ Rogers that cost less or don't have caps?

I've been trying out DL'ing with torrents at a friends house and now I think I might try it at home. he's got the fastest package from Rogers, but I don't think I'll need it that fast.

I didn't see anything on the rogers site that tells how much they charge if you go over your limit. do they charge per GB after you reach your limit or do they bump you up to the next cap ? how's it work?

how fast is their portable internet?

it's different for different packages but on the extreme (the fastest and most expensive one) it's $1.50 per gb up to a maximum of $25 per month.

Actually now if you get connected to any non-English speaking English Indian or pakistani with Bell you can request to be immediately transferred to a Canadian call centre. I would sooner speak french than talk to India.

I will never have Mr ROgers in my neighbourhood again. I use dto have cable and 3 cell phones. Their CSR's sucked. I hav ebeen with Bell for everything since 2000.

In 2003 a friend of mine had a consulting gig with Rogers to help them improve their call centres. One of the CSR measurements is how quickly they deal with each of the calls that they receive. Back then (maybe today) a legitimate way of dealing with a caller was to transfer them somewhere else. Another way that counted positively towards your goal was to simply hang on the caller. That counted as 'dealing' with the call.

Yesterday I had to call Rogers for my mother as she has a Rogers cell phone.
I called *611 from her cell and i get connected to Rogers Cable. WTF ??????
*611 on my Bell cell connects me to Bellmobility NOT Bell Xpressvu.

Ted Rogers is a fuckhead and a fuckup.

They actually purchase their bandwith from bell. They're also subject to bell's "traffic shaping' policies that they use on their own lines. On the bright side, their tech support team is phenomenal, they're fairly prompt in answering calls and very easy to speak to when dealing with problems.

I find that bell will do their best to not send a tech person to your house, they will sit there for hours doing 'diagnostics' on their end before they do anything.

Rogers on the other hand is the opposite, their CSR's aren't so bright, they're willing to send tech's out if they can't figure something out in the first minute.

I use E Suite for my home PC but since I am also out on the road a lot, I use Rogers Portable Internet for my laptop.

With e-suite, I get fast reliable Internet service, hassle free and they actually answer the phone after I press 1 (unlike rogers where you have to speak every option (2x) and wait 20 minutes to (a lifetime) to speak to "a knowledgeable person"

With Rogers Portable internet, I rarely have a spot where I can not get the Internet so Its great for sitting out at a park, in the middle of downtown (heck even in the middle of rush hour traffic on the gardiner), on the boat ... practically anywhere you have AC power as well cell phone access.

I do not do any heavy downloads (utorrent or movies) so I can not comment on the bandwidth caps.
