Not only can you buy bootlegs, but you can download game images and burn them to DVD yourself. The problem is that Nintendo takes a dim view to mod chipping and has a history of disabling chipped systems. Unless you don't mind the risk, you'll have to wait until the chip market reaches maturity.

Is it still too early to consider modding your wii at this point? I see there are second generation mods out there for roughly $90 installed but if its going to fry the system thats not that great a deal.

It won't fry the system, especially pre-installed, but Nintendo could release a firmware update that disables online functions or bricks the console entirely. Idunno about second gen chips though.

I am new so I am not sure what the online options do but a friend said that you can't play others online so what is the point of going online? I would rather mod it get games cheap and I am sure what ever is offered online like n64 and super Nintendo games via points can be done a different way .

actually Medal of Honor 2: Heroes, does have on-line play. And the upcoming Mario Kart game will also have an online component.
