Wild animals as pets Legal?

So Im Lewiston NY yesterday as my friends band is in the local parade that day. Typical small town America Parade with bands Fire Engines Boy Scouts etc. People were walking their dogs as well when this guy goes by with what we thought was a small dog but we all did a double take it was a small baby DEER on a leash! We all wondered if it was legal but being in the States we didn't know. Any thoughts?

It all depends on the jurisdiction you are in. Not only do you have to obey the local, state/provincial and federal laws, but there are also laws concerning wildlife conservation and endangered species. There are also laws concerning importation of dangerous and exotic pets. New species imported in some areas can be dangerous to people or take over the eco system.

[1] When God made the animals, he only made one of me! I am not endangered, but I am one of a kind.

[2] I have been called that by a girl that was in the doggie position and I gained entry into an unauthorized hole. She said : "You Animal"!
