They were going to build nukes, no wonder. Considering many of the Arab countries are not rational, I don't blame them.

Iraq at the time was ruled by a secular tyrant loathed by
Osama Bin Laden who deemed Iraq's government to be
atheists and communists. Saddam Hussein's vice president
Tariq Aziz was a Catholic. Iraq's governemnt was authoritarian
but Iraq and its people were ratonal enough to side with the
U.S. How much more rational the Arabs have to be to have
the same right as Israel?

To build nukes is the most rational thing to do for Arabs
living in the neighborhood of a bully backed by the world's
most powerful nation.

If Iran wants to close the Straits of Hormuz, Oman has to agree with it. They control the shipping through the Straits. The southern tip of the Strait of Hormuz is Omani territory.
