What's with the perfunctory platitudes? How does discussion and speculation "disrespect" anything?
Perfunctory platitudes, I guess just me being uncomfortable about possibly stepping on toes or in some way offending anyone whom this has touched in a deeper manner than myself. Chalk it up to just the way I was raised.

Discussion? I joined it so I dont think I can or tried to denounce it. Speculation? It was the wording of the speculation and some of the wagering on the outcome that, again for the way I was raised (or 'IMO' if you prefer), seemed disrespectful of the true weight of what was going on. I realize the wagering wasn't really about the outcome as much as making a point to the op but I still find it in poor taste. Just my opinion, I don't expect it to be shared by anyone else. Hope it's okay I added it to the discussion.

Will gladly admit I believe the evidence has shown him to be complicit and guilty. I hope and want for him to be found guilty and to have profound life altering revelations brought to him in prison.
I also think he is guilty, and should be found guilty, but juries are unpredictable. I also thought O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony, Michelle Liard, Preet Sarbjit Gill (Peter Gill), etc. were also guilty but the juries acquitted all of them. Even the notorious Robert Picton was found guilty of 2nd degree and not 1st degree murder of 6 women. Query: Does anybody here actually believe Casey Anthony and O.J. Simpson were not guilty?

I think the Crown has proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt, but I'm not on the jury...

I was really wondering why the defence didn't put Rafferty on the stand, because what did they have to lose? Then I read Blatchford's column about the evidence that the jury *didn't* hear (child porn, snuff videos, choking, etc) and it made sense. He'd get destroyed in cross. Defence can at best hope for conviction on lesser charges, but they're not playing for acquittal.

Here's a question: how can a white trash drug-addicted nothing like Rafferty, living with his mother in nowhere Ontario, no job, driving a POS Honda with a crappy home-made paint job manage to score so many women? And not only that, have at least one of those women prostitute herself to support his drug habit. Makes me shake my head. And the thing is, in a weird and twisted way, he's got talents and potential. If he'd used his apparent charm and gift of the gab in a quasi-legitimate enterprise (like sales, finance, real-estate) he could have had a good respectable life instead of wasting it snorting oxys and fucking desperate single moms from POF.

There are NINE women on the jury. Also, one woman has already taken the fall for 1st degree murder for him. When Bernardo was on trial, he apparently received 5,000 letters (many with nude photos) from female admirers, as did Ted Bundy and others. Go figure.

Do you know what else Ted Bundy, Paul Bernardo and others had in common?
They were convicted of their crimes!

Therefore your analogy is weak

The prosecution did not prove they did it to the satisfaction of the specific jurors.

Im shocked that the jury is still out, I thought this would have been a quick guilty verdict.

In the case of Peter Gill, one of the female jurors (Gilliam Glass) fell in love with him and he and his 5 other defendants were all acquitted.

I know the jury didnt get to hear about all the shit he downloaded and about all his ex Gfs stories. After hearing all about that it looks pretty damaging to his case.

Im still perplexed at how the cops had a search valid search warrant and found his computer, but the stuff they found on his hard drive was in admissable.

Apparently some dufas judge has made the grand proclamation the a computer is not an object, but wait for it........ its a "place", and this is the best part,..... because so much "stuff" can be kept in it.

I hear so many asinine calls by judges, that is it a requirement to be appointed, that they are idiots, or just an effort to create more work for their brothers.... lawyers.

Maybe some legal dachshunds here can explain the rationale behind that "interpretation" of the law.

Citing a few famous cases...... some of them american as evidence that Rafferty might walk is pretty weak. I know it's a bit late now as I think he was convicted.

But short of some sort of stat of the conviction rate for kidnap/rape/murder cases you can't make a claim, there might be many more where the guy gets convicted.

And same goes for the female jury = less convictions. In a case like this, if any of them are mothers or want to be mothers then I might think they will be quick to convict this sicko.

If there was any truth to this. The prosecution would try to get a 50/50 gender split as I think both sides get equal picks for jury.

Anyways, moot point now. Just confused as to how the OP arrives at the idea that there is even a remote chance that Rafferty walks. So what if he doesn't do the killing blow?!!?? Without him there would have been no crime in the first place.

Now they can just lock him up and throw away the key and we never have to hear any more about this stupid human piece of shit, nor his fucked in the head ex GF. I'm not a big believer in the death penalty, however, it is my hope that they both die in prison.
