He was a good friend of Conrad Black - I would have loved to sit in and listen to one of their conversations...

Would not want to go up against those two in a game of Scrabble.

A more articulate man you would have a hard time finding.

He was what I consider a real conservative. He was brilliant and knew his stuff.
It is too bad the term conservative was perverted by the Republicans, Regan and Bushit.

The more than 4.5 million words of his 5,600 twice-weekly newspaper columns, “On the Right,” would fill 45 more medium-sized books. His collected papers, which were donated to Yale University, weigh seven tons.
Wow!!!

I guess everybody has forgotten that W F Buckley early in his career
argued against voting rights for blacks on the basis that whites were superior.
When other conservatives challenged him on that, he responded by
agreeing that poor whites also should be denied the right to vote.

But he knew many big words.

That fact was in the obituary I cited. Here it's probably the usual de mortuis, nil nisi bonum.

And we all know that someone as pure as the driven snow like the obama slamma, his wife or the "rev" J jackson have NEVER EVER in their whole life said anything derogatory about white people. give it a rest.:)

I hope that this isn't going to become the standard defense against the pointing out of any character flaws or foolish actions. Things would get pretty damn tiresome around here. Give it a rest too! :)

I never admitted that what danmand pointed out was a character flaw as you call it of WFB's.

I am pointing out the hypocracy of those who may presume that any racial slight , real or perceived, only goes one way.

I can never rest, i must be vigilant or the PC twaddlers of the world will prevail.

We all come up short on the morality scale, Lancs.

St. Paul, fka Saul, had his problems as well. St. Peter
was much worse.

So, what's the point?

I know I don't pass muster on the morality scale.

I've got real trouble with that " shalt not covet thy neighbours wife" plus daughters thing.

Yes I am bad.

As a young fellow I remember reading his 'Up from Liberalism' and watching 'Firing Line'. Hard to believe he was 82. Nice obit here: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/27/b...kley.html?_r=1&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=all
A mean-spirited, pseudo-literate douchebag. Not a counterweight to lying bastards like the Project for the New American Century, but a forerunner. May he broil in hell, with a truckload of thesauri shoved up his pompous ass.
