Yeah, he's a bit of a character with the press, but I guess being the head coach of the Leafs; you do need to have thick skin and a bit of a sense of humour. I think Luke Schenn put it best when he was being interviewed about how Wilson handled his extension situation...Luke basically called him a smart ass, which is how he acts even when he is with the boys...so at least he is consistant...

Another bonehead move by Burke. Just as he was redeeming himself with a few good decisions he goes and pulls this nonsense. Wilson deserves an extension only if he takes the team to the playoffs.

Most analysts believe that this is the right move. There is no "risk" in this extension. By Wilson's own admission, if he doesn't deliver, he will still get the axe contract or not. The extension takes the distraction of the coaching situation out of the picture until after the season, allowing the team to focus on one thing only - which is to try to make playoffs.

I don't see the big deal. Anytime he starts to bomb out, they can fire him. As long as he's getting reasonable results (meaning the team must continue to improve) he needs the security of the contract to properly coach. Are the players supposed to play hard with a lame duck coach? For sure somebody would use that as a criticism of Burke if they failed to make the playoffs.
Are any paying jobs available for analysts?

You just need to play many years in the sport, have an entertaining personality, pretend like you know what you are talking about, be a little memorable and voila you are now an analyst. That's how I heard Nick Kypreos got the job :p

In that case, they need better criteria. Kypreos sounds like he played, a punk.

Maybe you are setting the bar too low. I think he has to make the playoffs and get past the first round. Half the teams make the playoffs, all making the playoffs says is you are mediocre. This"HOF" (According to Burke) type coach should be able to do more in his 4th year as coach of the team than "just" make the playoffs.

1 game left for the Leafs in December. In 10 of the 12 games they played this month they have given up 1 or more goals on the PK, total 16. Pretty sad

The risk is Wilson not being as motivated or firing him at the end of the year and still having to pay him another year. The analysts can think what they want but give a man an incentive to earn a new contract and you'll get the best of him more often than not.

Normally I would totally agree...but Toronto is one of those markets when it is damn if you do damn if you don't. If they don't offer him an extension, the press will have a field day with their theories and causing a lot of distraction for the team. This is Burke's way of trying to not have those distractions. At the same time, with the extension, people are complaining that it happened too early, he doesn't deserve it etc.

Can't win either way...

If Burke ever decides to fire Wilson, will he allow Wilson to inform the world via twitter?

With Randy Carlye out there, Wilson should not get to comfortable, new contract extension or not.

Statistically 2 more PK goals, it was actually 3 as the second goal just scored as they returned to full strength. How long can Burke tolerate this crap?
I don't care if it's Carlyle or my nieces coach, anything has to be better.
