Would the techies on the Board please explain in plain English what this means. Thanks.

Windows 7 and 8.1 users will be able to upgrade to Windows 11 but with a condition (gizchina.com)
Means you won't be able to install Windows 11 on your computer unless the motherboard has a special security chip called TPM or Trusted Platform Module . Some motherboards after 2018 have it and some motherboards have space where you can insert the module. Checking your TPM is really easy. You can press the Windows key + R to bring up the Run dialogue box. You can then type in 'tpm. msc' without the inverted commas and hit enter. It will tell you if the chip is found on your computer. If not no Windows 11 for you !

You can go from win 7 and 8 to 11. However instead of upgrading the OS you basically have to wipe your disk clean and do an fresh install as you would on a new blank HD.
With win 10 you can go to win 11 and I assume all the stuff you have on your HD will carry over.

However I could be wrong but that is how I read it.

There is a tool provided by Microsoft to check if your computer hardware is compatible with Windows 11.
At the moment, or at least when they first had the announcement, the cpu compatibilty list was infantile, it may still be.
However, it is likely to include many more, especially if Microsoft is planning on pulling another windows 10 and forcing everyone to upgrade.

TLDR: FUCK MICROSOFT AND FUCK WINDOWS, install GNU/Linux maybe Ubuntu to start.

Your approach is very helpful.....but:

Full disclosure, I'm a strong Microsoft shareholder and subscribe to Office 365, but for the life of me, I don't understand why a multi-billion dollar company can't have a help desk to help their customers transition. This is why people leave for Apple and never come back. Apple computers and OS is just so much easier, and if you have any problem despite how long you've owned it...just pick up the phone and call them. And you never get that "our call volume is busier than usual" bullshit you get from everyone else.
