And here I thought nothing new out there could suck any more than Vista.Right now, I'm not a #@$ happy camper. This morning my dvd drives disappeared from my system. Message from W7 says drivers are missing or corrupt. Uninstalling drivers, uninstalling hardware, and rebooting makes no #$@% difference. Drivers fail to install. Grrrrrrr!
Everything had been working peachy-keen with XP, but was I satisfied? Noooo! Many moons ago, I used to tell my analysands that the best is oft the enemy of the good. I should have listened to myself. Grrrrrrr!
Fuck, maybe I'll go back to XP. No issues. It just worked.
Riley, there might be a lesson here for you.

P.S. Yes, it was a clean install.
P.P.S. I bet those fucking dvd drives will show up under Ubuntu.
P.P.P.S. No earlier restoration point showing. Ain't that fucking grand?
P.P.P.P.S. Yes, I do have anger issues!!!!!
I've been using Windows 7 for a good month and a half now.. the full version (Retail) has been out for a while through the right channels. This is really what vista was supposed to be and builds on the legwork hardware builders did to support vista. It's had one of the largest betas ever (anyone could download it for free)I am surprised that anyone except software maintenance people would
install a new operating system the day it is released.
If you wait until january (not the first one, the next) you will be able
to buy it for $50 and most of the bugs will have been fixed by service pack 1.
That's a good point, but in this case Windows 7 was really released a year ago from all the betas and candidate testing. Very very good reception and compatibility. In the case of Vista though I waited until SP1 to upgrade.I am surprised that anyone except software maintenance people would
install a new operating system the day it is released.

I can. Running BOTH 2003 (SP3) and 2007 (SP2) at same time no problems. No XP compatibility emulation that I'm aware of for 2003.Can anyone confirm that Office 2003 works properly with Windows 7? I heard from someone that you needed to run in XP emulation mode, which sounds like a pain. I need to replace my laptop, but I don't want to have to buy a few gazillion dollars of new software...

Service pack 0 worked. Those six or seven tall boys kept me on the job. Now I'm back to my dual-boot setup of W7 and Ubuntu 9.01.Service pack 0
Vantec wasn't much help but the mysterious W7 finally found the appropriate driver and I'm now loading in my blu-ray disc suite. Ah, there'll be movies playing in the morrice household tonight...unless the drive disappears again! The only weird thing is that W7 doesn't recognize my external blue ray drive. It reports that it can't find any drivers for it. XP never had any such problem and Vista, I understand, also had drivers for it. Weirder still, it was working under the prior installation of W7. Oh well. I've emailed support at Vantec, the maker of the enclosure for the external drive, and I'm sure to get back an enlightening reply anytime soon.
