Buddha bless you Hobbyer, as we get more experienced around machines it becomes second nature. I like the idea of a slut box, but keep a totally clean drive around for the important shit. I use a rackmount sata that enables me to run any os. I was just trying to lend you a hand so to speak, knowledge is free and shouldn't be kept in bottle. This forum is good like that, and I'm still learning myself. I hope it will be a long fruitful trip

cheers

I have to concur with powershot, huge diff between os's, if microshaft doesn't clean up they will lose a larger % of the market than they anticipated. The lag between releases, etc.................... fark but they are on 90% of mach worldwide what the fuck can we do. Sigh.............

Best Buy, Futureshop and Staples all have the pre-order sales on now on their respective websites.....and yeah, the price is $64.99
Ditto for The Source, same price. The professional version pre-order is 124.99 (or 129.99, forget for sure). I would imagine they're all about the same.

This is the beauty of Linux not having to deal with ANY of that BS anymore!...
I concur. However, I think I'll always need at least one Windows machine so I've placed my order.

Never do an upgrade. "Wipe and load" is the better way to go. If your 'upgraded' system fails, how do you re-install windows 7? You would now have to go out and purchase the full version and install that from scratch, why not just do that in the first place and save yourself the hassle...

"Upgrade" is just for pricing purposes, i.e. for people who already bought a Full license of either XP or Vista Home Premium (or higher). You can still do a clean install of the "Upgrade" Windows 7. That's what most end up doing. Sometimes the "upgrade" clean installation asks you for your valid FULL XP or Vista license, just enter it and install clean. Not sure if that's the case this time but it has been in the past.

According to Microsoft an "in place" upgrade from XP to Windows 7 is not possible. An "in-place" upgrade from XP would have left all data and applications in place from an XP system.

A "clean install" which is what is required from XP to Windows 7 is going to require that the hard drive be formatted to wipe it clean before the new Windows 7 system is installed.

I'm glad that's the way it is. In-place upgrade make me nervous about ending up with a buggy or flaky computer due to messy coding.

I've ordered 3 copies of Windows 7 Pro upgrade through Amazon.ca.

I really try to give Amazon my business whenever I can, they've always given excellent service.

You guys pay for software?
Do you pay for a car, housing, gas, food? If you use the software, then why wouldn't you pay for it? If you find the software overpriced, then find a cheaper alternative that does what you need.

Ubuntu is a good choice for those that want a free OS. Can't play a lot of video games on it, but for web surfing, photo editing, playing movies (bluray support not out yet), and etc. it is an excellent choice.

If Photoshop is too expensive, then use Elements.

If you can't afford an escort do you just steal it from another girl (rape)? If you can't afford a Porsche, do you risk grand theft on your record?

Why do otherwise law abiding citizens feel that pirating software is ok too?

No, I don't make my living off of software.

Bought software once, many years ago......just to see what it was like.
Didn't like the experience......haven't done it since......

Gotta luv Linux....
Amen to that. Open source has made things so much better and affordable for the geek!

Favorite program I use is mediacoder. Completely free, and I can convert videos like a madman without using a command window.
