wireless n

I would like to know if I could get wireless n speeds if I upgraded my wireless adapter to n, right now I'm using g but my Router 'belkin n' is using the format. I'm with bell and taking the 20g/mo package. Will I be able to double my speed or is there a download cap? Will I see an improvement or should I just stick with the g ?

If you speed of the "G" router > speed to Internet (Bell router) then the bottleneck is with Internet router and won't make any difference. (i.e. 54.0 mps). If you have a connection to the internet > 54.0 mps then it might be helpful depend on the number of computers you are servicing.

thanks, so how do people get the n speeds then? Do they have an unlimited no cap account? Hunter don't get what your saying. Are you telling me bell has a wireless n modem? my Router is n, my adapter is g wanted to make everything N to see if I get a speed improvement all around.

I put it simply. I won't make any difference.

The speed of your connection to Bell (router/modem) is likely 2 Mbps. So the fastest you can get anything from the internet is 2Mbps.

The "G" interfaces operate at up to 54 mbps. So the fastest you get get information from the internet is 2 mbps (because the Bell connection is your limiting factor.)

As to how to get faster speeds. You have to upgrade you Bell package of course. I still don't think they offer anything great then 16 mbps which wouldn't require upgrade to "N" interface.

As others have said, it won't get you any improvements on the internet traffic.
It will however get you improvments on speed if you transfer a lot of files between computers on your own network.
If you don't mind waiting a bit longer for that type of thing and all you are looking for is internet gains then you don't need N.
As an a side if you are havving connectivity problems and interference from other networks etc, then N 'might' eliminate or improve that, but not always.

I have found the N routers seem to have greater wireless/WIFI range.

given, but does it improve your download/upload speed? The above responses have explained that the limit in/out is set by the isp 2mbs. Aka equipment doesn't mean squat unless you are setting up a home network. And that's where there might be a diff.
