Wishful thinking?

Now that PM Martin has promised to pump billions of dollars into the healthcare system, will Premier McGinty roll back his promise-breaking health premium? Or is this merely my wishful thinking?

I know, I know. The extra funding, regardless of how many billions it may be, is still way short of what is required. New and higher taxes are always justified on inadequate funding of this just cause or that, but once put in place will never go away.

The taxpayers will continue to pay. The politicians will continue to face the difficult choices of how to spend the limited resources they are bestowed with. The three levels of government will continue to blame each other for short-changing each other. The rights groups will continue to cry foul for not having the funding they deserve. The Senate will continue to be the hotbed of patronage appointments. Adriane Clarkson will continue to spend lavishly in the name of promoting the values of Canada.

Until the politicians can be truly held accountable for their actions, the saga will continue. McGinty introduces the health premium on the basis of inadequate funding, he is accountable for rolling back the premium, however slightly the roll back might be, with the added Federal funding. This is accountability, however superficial it might sound.

Choosing which politicans or political party to vote nowadays is like choosing between Coca cola, Pepsi, or private label Cola.

They may have different brand but exactly what's the difference?

Or it's like choosing different bundles of programs at Rogers cable or Bell Sympatico. You have mixed bags of "products"-something you like and something you really don't need or interested. Either way you have to take it or leave it.

Unless we have legislation like those Australia, which voting is a law for all citizens, otherwise sooner or later many Canadians will feel turn off all of the political process.

The only group which may be interested in voting will be new citizens.
