How safe is it to post your resume online?

Pretty safe I think, my current employment (3 years now) was obtained through my resume on Workopolis.

What specifically are you worrried about?

With Workopolis, you can post without your phone number or address, so anybody reviewing your resume needs to contact you through e-mail. Or you can restrict who sees it. So far, no problems for me.

Mine has been posted on Workopolis for some time. The only calls I ever get are from headhunters. I think it is pretty safe. After all, most peoples names and addresses are posted in the local telephone directory.

You can do what I do.
Instead of posting the specific companies you work or worked for, just write the industry type (i.e. say bank instead of Bank of Toronto), and the city it is located.
lhasfun has a good point too about the address/phone number. I never put my address or home number. I put my name and email address only. If you need to include a phone number, use your cell.

If a headhunter calls or emails you, you can always send him a resume yourself with the specifics.

I would think that it is fairly safe. As an employer/hirer in the past we did pull resumes from Workopolis and in the majority of interviews we ended up candidates from the posted resumes over what we received via submissions. The resumes consisted of an even mix of different reveals on address/contact info and we didn't factor that into whether they were picked for interviews.

Funny hiring story...
There was one that we got via fax (long time ago...5 years) that was from a Kinkos fax and was so 'secure' that the applicant didn't include any contact info. Suffice to say they didn't make the cut for interviews.
