I saw an interesting topic on another forum. What's the scariest city, area, neighbourhood you've experienced, or know of? For example, Compton, Jane/Finch, etc. Places you'd be scared to go after dark, or even daytime.

Souht side of Chicago...and anywhere within 100 feet of Goober and Fang. Ended up in all those places completely by accident and never want to go back.

Been to Compton, have good friends who live in Inglewood. Both places look like a four star resort compared to the neighborhoods of Detroit.

The ultimate HELL

I went to a Midnight Madness sale at Canadian Tire last Christmas.
It was frightening.
An early snow storm caused mahem in the parking lot. Drivers at a demolition derby display more couteousy.
Store was jam packed with crazed bargain hunters armed with flyers and shopping carts.
People were physically wrestling with door crasher specials in the isles.
Common courteousy & respect for fellow man was non-existant.
The check-outs were endless lines of irate purchasers on the brink of riot.
Staff were ragged and on the verge of calling in an air strike to calm the crowds.
I aborted my mission, fought my way to the door & escaped thankful for my life.
I have been in the slums of Miami, LA, NYC , Tampa, Atlanta, New Orleans, Detroit, Chicago and numerous small cities that pale in comparison to this hell.
Shopping is an evil ritual.

The Tenter Grounds, East London is the worst place I've ever been. I've never been afraid in Toronto or Hamilton or anywhere else in Canada, but there, there are tiny, narrow black alleys & psychos roaming freely.

Medellin, Colombia
Kingston Rd. in scarborough is pretty grimey......but i agree the slums of Toronto are nothing compared to the ghettos in the states if anyone has ever been to Detroit alot of the city looks like it has been through a war with abondoned buildings and the amount of homeless that are on the streets.

Birmingham UK-South of the Bull Ring around Digbeth Coach Station. The area's undergoing a bit of a revival now, like many areas in Central Brum, so alot of the riffraff has moved on, but I've never been so happy to run into a cop than in this area once. If you're there, and things are looking a bit dodgy, find the White Swan or the Anchor. They're safe havens. The Paddys at The Swan, in particular, will treat you well, AND you'll get the best pint of Guinness that side of Dublin.
Anywhere in the Midlands can be a bit dodgy really. Walsall, Woverhampton, Coventry, Dudley, West Bromwich, etc. all can be pretty violent for no apparent reason. When I lived in the area in the mid-90s the little bastards only carried knives and icepicks, but now I hear that guns are appearing more and more.
I have also walked through, and drank in pubs, in what were apparently pretty rough areas of South London, Edinburgh, Stirling, Manchester, and Nottingham, but being an innocent, little Canadian boy(and after more than a couple of pints) I didn't know any better. Having a Canadian accent helps get you out of A LOT of potential negative encounters in the UK. Someone's always got a brother/sister/cousin in Toronto or Vancouver.

Maybe H.A. stands for Hermaphrodite's Anonymous in this case.

I know *I'd* cross the street to get out of the way at 3:00 AM when I recognize a leather Hermaphrodite's Anonymous jacket.

However, if you think about it, they're not being that anonymous if they have leather jackets, are they?

I'd add the east end of Vancouver. Druggies everywhere (it's about the only place in Vancouver where you won't find an Asian !!)

Almost anywhere is Toronto is safe...

after you have visited Detroit, (or parts of most major US cities), the area around the port in Marsellie France or the Favellas in Rio de Janiero.

For a short time the scariest place I have ever been was in Ouzi south of Beirut, when escorting a group of senior financial officials not long after hostilities had declined there. Although it had appeared that the lead car may have been coerced/part of an organized nap job - he was just taking the fastest route. To go through the tiny windy roads lined with junk shops, auto part teardown pads and carcasses of meat hanging along the street which incidently, was where they kept the US hostages was pretty chilling - atleast until you get the lay of the land.

Believe it or not, almost any warzone unless it is extrmely hot, is usually safer than being in many parts of cities in the US.

So many, how to choose...

Canada: Vancouver's downtown east side, East Hastings and Blood Alley.

Grease dumpsters behind any ChickenWings franchise is damn atrocious.

My dirty laundry hamper and/or kitchen sink at times could win awards.

I second what Cobra1 says, been through 'em except for Rio.

USA: the whole Detroit - Flint area, desolation

The last time I was in the Queen/Sherbourne area, the local druggies came up to me and called me "officer". What was even funnier was that a "scout" (marked Metro) car stopped for coffee and one of the uniforms asked me what division I was with.
LOL

A dancer once asked me if I was a cop. Told her no but she didn't believe me and wanted to see my badge. Being a knight on the quest, I should have offer to show her my lance and shield. :)
