After the latest Jetsgo collapse deal, will you still buy airtickets over the web ?

I bought tickets for end of this month with Mastercard and they will not stop payment.

IMO, it was staged with maximum cash flow coming in before Jetsgo folded. (complete with 1 cent first way sale).

If you buy with a travel agency, you are protected by a fund. It may or may not cost you extra to get the airline tickets that way, depends on your package and/or relationship with the Travel Agency.

I will never do this (buy over web) again.

What do you mean they won't stop payment? WTF is up with that? Visa is.....

You paid for a service and that service can not be completed so therefore Jetsgo should not receive payment for it from mastercard. EOS

I wouldn't settle for their answer, anyone at any time can stop payment on something when you've used a credit card provided the reason is sufficient enough. Like if you paid for repairs to your car and discover the repairs weren't completed.

Seems to me this is mastercard's way of grabbing the cash without forwarding it to jetsgo as I doubt they've forwarded the payment TO jetsgo yet.

I have a Travel Agent I use for everything and have never had a problem, though I always book with big carriers after my experiences with Royal and Canada3000 in years past. I've had flights cancelled in the past and the agent has handeled everything. I got stuck in Jamaica once after my flight was cancelled and within 2 hrs I had a hotel/food voucher for two days and a seat on a flight in two days. Everyone else was camped out at Sangster overnight for a noon flight the next day...( while I was playing in the sand for an extra 2 days ) I'm flying out in a few hours on US Airways with no concern.

Sure I would buy tickets over the internet. Those people that bought tickets 12 hours before through a travel agent or at the airport counter are still out of pocket.

The internet is not going bankrupt

First off, I'd contact Mastercard and tell them to either stop the payment or cancel my card b/c I'll be switching to Visa.

Despite all the hype about it being a scam, there was a radio show on Friday that had a business prof from the Rotman School of Management at U of T who put it concisely and accurately. The airline was pinning all its hopes on getting additional financing that would allow it to stay in business for a couple more months. The business was taking its toll on the competition and the endgame was to be the company that could stay afloat the longest, and then collect all the chips once the competition had gone out of business.

There was no conspiracy. There was no intended ripoff. There was no plan to rake in money from the spring break holidays and then close up shop. Plain and simple, the company's anticipated financing was rejected by the banks and they had no more money to operate. Thus, they went under. Bad timing, yes. A conspiracy, no.

This is big business folks. It's not a charity. There is absolutely no requirement (nor should there be) that a company need tell you that it is in financial difficulty and may not be able to fulfill its obligations. If that were the case, a lot of success stories would have been failures. All I can say is, do your homework. A lot of the people that got burned were the people who cut corners and sought the cheapest available fare they could possibly get. Doing so comes with risk, and every once in a while such people should expect to get burned.

The lesson I learned is to pay the extra cost to hire a travel agent and always pay with a credit card (Visa).

The way I understand it, the CC companies will reimburse you, but only after your flight date has passed, or jetsgo officially goes into bankruptcy.

Your place!!
Visa, Mastercard have Guarantees in their Card holder agreements to cover such things. It just may take awhile to get it done.
