Maybe it was the literary controversy that dogged his '01 byelection campaign, but there's another local noteworthy I'd classify as "possible TERBite"...

Sorry. RIP, anyway.

It was Marilyn Churley of the NDP who labelled Hunter as a paedophile when he ran for the Liberals in the 2001 byelection. She actually based this on his fictional work and has never apologized.

There was a documentary about prostate cancer on the CBC a while back profiling 3 or 4 guys who had prostate cancer.

Hunter was one of them.

Unfortunately he opted for some new age non-invasive type of treatment (can't remember what it was) despite the protests of his family. He was really concerned about losing his sexual abilities. His words were, "My dick and I have had a life long love affair"

I can relate to this, however, I have to question what's more important, your dick or your life. The problem with the new age treatment was that if it failed, you couldn't resort to the surgery (why I don't know.)

Anyway, Hunter's choice failed to succeed and that was shown in the documentary and his PSA levels were rising.

If he had of opted for the surgery, he may well have still been here today. I may be wrong, but if you go surgical, I thought you could still perform sexually with the aid of some viagara. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Without a functioning dick, you might as well be dead.

Or retired.

Speaking from experience...losing the use of your penis can be debilitating psychologically. I'm on some meds. that at one time not only gave me E.D., but they also interfered with my ability to have an orgasm. Let me tell you that there's no worse feeling for a man...or at least this one. Luckily the orgasm problem has been addressed and all I need is a fit partner and some cialis..then it's sweet bliss until the sun comes up!!!! (bow chica bow wow...hnehehe))

I'd be curious to know how prostate cancer treatments affect sexual function. I can honestly tell you that as much as I'd want to "live", I'd be very concerened about the quality of my life as well...

That being said...63 is far to young to die.

Prostrate Cancer - Get Checked!

The important message here is to make sure you get checked out every year from 40 on. You need to have both a PSA (blood) test and a digital exam (finger up the arse). Make sure the doctor sticks their finger up your arse and feels your prostrate. I had to insist on it with one doctor - a the PSA (blood) test on its own is not reliable. If the thought of a digital exam bothers you get a female doctor. Usually their finger nails are not too long!

There's plenty of time to worry about treatments if you find you have it. And if you do get it you'll quickly realize how much more important life is.

Rudd Clinic

I am 42 and this year I am supposed to go in for the colonoscopy...at 40, I had the sigmoidoscopy which is basically a stell rod with a light to view for pollyps and the like. I would recomment the Rudd Clinic on Edward St - Dr. Rudd is great in the colon area - would also be another good check up. I suffer from prostitis regularly so am always concerned with thatr area...ahh, to be 20 again.
