Stacy Francis definitely needed to go based on her singing skills (i.e. not progressing enough). I was glad to see her go. However, after seeing Astro's attitude I wouldn't have minded seeing him go instead either. Next week, they will probably come up with some kind of a spin about how emotional he was and that he's just a little kid. BS! The kid has been arrogant right from the start, he was just keeping it in check during the show while he was doing well. A little bit of adversity brought his natural personality back to the front. I am now going to be hoping he gets kicked off next week.

^^ Does that mean Tiny Talent Time from the 60's exploited children? It was a talent show for kids and they worked for free and CHCH TV made money off commercials in those days. You can say that about virtually any talent show on television.
Yes

The equivalent is an employer allowing potential employees compete for a job, hiring the best, then not paying wages to the rest

There are labor laws preventing this exploitation (or they would be doing it)

Why should not these same laws apply to Simon the billionaire

But don't potential employees compete for jobs anyway. Interview process where in some cases they have to develop a presentation and deliver to the hiring manager(s)

What about when they interview or profile people on documentaries like on History channel. I'm sure some of those old war vets don't get paid even though the History channel makes money off of them.

Hey Yoga Face, what do you think about interns then? None are paid but work like dogs, more than the full time employees, but are lured to the fact they're working in a presitigious firm and can meet highly influential people that may help them out someday. Think Howard Stern, lol. This happens in many business sectors and is common practice.

Sherzinger is such a jackass.
After her gutless move on last night's show I have to agree with you completely. What a dolt, she had no guts to tell the truth for fear of hurting one of the contestants, so she lied. She demoralized a young girl, Rachael Crow from going further in the competition when Sherzinger knew full well Crow was by far the better singer in the end. She really pissed me off, and now she looks ugly to me, lol.

Not if there is a good union

lawyers are different when they article as they are learning and can look forward to a big payday

As well, such a firm is free market

X factor is an oligopoly. How many such shows are there? Are there not special laws controlling monopolies to prevent exploitation ??

Just because you are the only employer in town does not mean you get free labor while making a fortune !

Unbridled capitalism has proven to be seriously flawed and is no way to run a society

What about Leno and Letterman ? I see a difference between an actor on Letterman selling his next movie and free talent on X Factor but the discussion is interesting.

Simply put, it is wrong for someone to make a fortune off of someones free labor while the laborer remains poor because the shape of unbridled capitalism allows for it

How does a company make money off an interview ? It cost them money

The History Channel is a news program

I doubt they make a profit but if they were making billions then I would think the interviewed soldiers who fought the war the documentary is making money from should get paid for the interview but there is an ethical issue of paying someone for news
