the malcontents in Muslim society find far greater support for violence and atrocity than malcontents in our society.
Christian history is bathed in blood and savagery. In the same way ISIS is beheading Muslim pacifists by the thousands, catholic and protestants savaged each other then moved on to wipe out other cultures (heretics) around the world. Recently the Serbian conflict was a savage attempted genocide conducted on a passive Muslim community. BTW: Were those Muslim terrorists that burned churches and lynched black people ~ 50 years ago ? I'm not excusing any terrorists but just try to remove any smugness Christians have that they are without their own nutbars.

It would be nice to get past the formalities around "every group once upon a time committed an atrocity" and focus on the problems in the present day.

Today if you are a malcontent in western society there are systems in place to detect you, discourage you, and divert you to treatment. Certainty you will not find and quasi national groups inciting you to armed violence and providing you with training, planning aid, and financing. You may slip through the cracks and become a Jason Borque or a Marc Levine, but there are good odds that instead you will be discouraged and that you will actually received support to send you in a different direction.

In the Muslim world even if you are born into a moderate family people with those sorts of violent aspirations can quickly link up with like minded malcontents, find lots of encouragement and lots of philosophical justifications for violence, as well as actually get training on weapons use and be provided with machine guns, rpg's, high explosives, and other military equipment to help you kill more effectively.

There is currently a difference. Currently the terrorist threat is primarily a Muslim terrorist threat and we ought to be able to talk about the reasons why.

The smugness comes from the fact that most of Christianity has moved on. The terrorist animals have remained just as barbaric. No desire to modify/enhance their behaviour.

We have learned. They refuse to.

Muslim could learn from the Irish template. Renounce violence. Negotiate a peace agreement.

This is true. But the IRA are still reprehensible terrorists. It is odious that they are involved in the political process, but better than them continuing their campaign of atrocity.

I note that you are asking us to negotiate with terrorists.

Reluctant co-operation—if any—is a pretty standard way of relating to an occupying army, in every sort of culture all across the world.
Yeah, that is why Muslims in France and England have created "no go" zones for white people.
