zip.ca is a website for renting dvd
you make a list of cd's
they send them out to you via Canada post.
you keep them as long as you want
as you send them abc they send you more form your list
it has a 2 week trial and than 25$ a month
Anyone try this. I know there are american sites. But I just sort of stumbled on ths site today. You need a cc for the 2 week trial...and you can rent upto 3 at a time

Good concept - it's easy and convenient. It's also a reasonably big hit in the US.

The thing is though, you'd have to rent a awful lot of movies to make it worthwhile. At my local video store they charge me $4 to rent a DVD. Let's call it $8 then if there's a one day late fee. (Which I've done one more than one occasion.) I'd have to do this 3 times in a month to hit $24. If I return them on time, that means I have to rent 6 movies per month = more than one per week. Personally I only rent 1 or 2 DVDs per month, so the economics don't work out for me. YMMV of course.

I agree with xarir.....if you watch a lot of DVDs it might be worth while. Do you also pay extra for postage/handling? what happens if a DVD goes astray? or arrives damaged? personally, I prefer to visit a store and see what I'm getting, without the hassle of monthly billings and disputing charges with some computer! Under 6 DVDs a month its not worth it.

I tried it

I've tried it, just for the 2 week period. In that time I rented 6 videos. They come from Ottawa I think so it takes a few days to come to you and a few to go back. I had no problems with delivery or playing the movies so it was fine. I didn't continue because I work shift work and don't always feel like watching movies at certain times or certain days.
It is good though. I could probably rent 12 a month or so. They update you by e-mail when they received the movie back and when they've sent the next one(s) to you. You can get 3 at a time, and mail one back each day or whatever if you wanted to. They have a big list of movies, some not available at your local Blockbuster.
If you haven't tried out the 2 week free trial period, you should. It's free.

Sorry for the late response but didn't see it until now. It's been a long time now but I think I had to use my cc. It worked fine and I didn't get charged with a rebill or anything.
I'd recommend the free trial, I like free stuff.
