TNT is reporting that the injured slash unable to perform Alonzo Mourning will be bought out by the Raptors by weeks end and wow remarkably he will recover from being unable to perform in TO and sign with the Miami Heat and go for a championship what a weasel this guy is, with the turmoil the Raps are going thru now with the coach and Rafer and players wanting out over lack of playing time, this team is going to have a very hard time getting anyone to come to TO and play for this team and inevitably lose there only star Chris Bosh eventually also.

The Raptors will follow the Vancouver Grizzles fate and end up in Las Vegas in due time.

Why?

Why did the Raptors even trade for someone that had not intention of playing for 'em? Why buy him out, instead of letting him sit? Save $5mil, both in actual terms and cap $$? Save a roster spot for a 10 day contract? ... but the biggest ? I have is ... why did NJ sign someone to $15mil, if he has one career assist and one kidney?

Absolutley disgusted with the Raptors. I still say good riddance to "Wince" Carter, and if they didn't want Zo, fine, but while they were paying him, he should've been in Toronto working with Bosh, Arruajo and the other young forwards, coaching them on some finer points of the game.
Get rid of Peddie and take Babcock with him. Mitchell I'm still willing to give a chance.
May as well change the team name to the Toronto Clippers. This franchise has been a joke throughout its history, and yet somehow this year has made all the others seem championship calibre.

Its sad that players can get away with this. IMO if you agree to a buyout, you shouldn't be allowed to play for another team for the original duration of your contract.

As soon as the Raptors get some real management overseeing them they'll do well. Their entire problem has been terrible decison making from day one.

The problem is that none of you guys understand the dynamics of the NBA CBA. Any deal involving two teams over the salary cap must have matching salaries, within 15% of each other, going either way.

TO NEW JERSEY:
Carter (12.5 million)

TO TORONTO:
Aaron Williams (3.2 million)
Eric Williams (3.0 million)
Alonzo Mourning (5.4 million)
2005 1st round pick
2006 1st round pick

TOTAL = 11.6 million

If Mourning's salary wasn't included then the deal couldn't be done.

I'm holding judgement and

Waiting until February 24th.

If Feb 24th comes and goes and nothing, then we lose Donyell Marshall at season's end and the team just gets worse. Does anyone have the "goods" on the draft picks we obtained???....are they worth anything?

Mitchell said it they other day, "The raps aren't big enough or athletic enough"..and I'd like to add, not fast enough.

The Vince Carter trade in my books was awefull(unless again someone can explain the value of the draft pics). I think we definitely should have gone for a tall athletic scorer. Someone we knew we could get 15 points and 10 rebounds. I have said before a deal with Portland for the likes of Abdur Rahim made sense. If Babcock could have talked to Vince about bringing Abdur Rahim to Toronto, we might have been able to trade Marshall for Abdur Rahim and keep Vince, Jalen and Bosh. (don't know if the $$$$ would have worked for that trade)

by the 24th we'll know the future of this team. There are a lot of players on the market right now: All of the Knicks(except Marbury), Portland, Minnesota, Boston,....have players to unload.

Get a young, athletic, tall, horse....and we'll be fine.

By the way, the Raptors are not a bad team. They are on a losing skid for just a couple of reasons : they are giving up 10-15 points/game breaking in Arrujo and fighting with Alston. The Arrujo factor is a matter of growing pains...I sure hope this bet works....I believe New Jersey picked up Kristic after Arrujo and he is exactly what we could have used to be at the top of the division right now.

Zo did not stick it to the Raptors

Alonzo Mourning has been a pretty classy basketball player and gentleman in his years of playing.

From my understanding, he had no intention of playing for Toronto, and made his intention known to the Raps. However, as stated earlier, there was no deal if Alonzo was not included because of the CBA, and because Vince's salary was so high.

I have been willing to give the GM some slack, but this was a bad deal all around for the Raps. Effectively, they have gotten nothing for Vince... and now they are even paying to buy Mourning's contract out!!!! What the FUCK is that all about????

I am happy Vince is gone...and will be even happier when things start to fall apart for him as the Nets continue to lose and hopefully Jkidd leaves... But we should have gotten something for him...at least a shitload of cash...instead we have to pay..and our GM is telling us that's a good thing??

I believe the pick we received in the trade this year is Philly's (so its tied to how they do). Next year we get Denver's.

We also have our own pick this year.. Looks like it will be top 8.

I hope somehow we can unload Lamond Murray when we trade away Marshall. He is a total black hole.

Vince is showing he is a top 5 player again when healthy and motivated.. But how long will he stay healthy?

Its unfortunate they couldn't just suspend Mourning without pay.. In this day and age of super agents, that would have done more harm than good.

I don't think it's going to be that harsh. This season is down the drain, no doubt, but Basketball will flourish in Toronto. Vancouver Grizzlies is a different story.

Sam Mitchell not giving playing time because he wants players to play harder and value their playing time. It has worked on guys like Peterson and Rose. All we need is a Center and we are fine. Remember, we have like 4 first round picks coming up so there are plenty of moves Babcock can make.

Zo is an idiot, nevermine him. The guy's only got one kidney, how good can he be? let him buzz off. Raptors are rebuilding the team around Chris Bosh. They will make some big moves.

have faith man, we will be the only NBA team in Canada for a long time.

Do you know how the Philly pick works?....does PHilly have to be doing bad in order to evaluate the Pick???...is it their position in the conference or the division???....the lower their rank the better the pick???

BTW can't agree with you more about Lamond (JACKitup)Murray!!!

and if Alonzo signs with Miami right away there has got to be a way to get some kind of legal action against him....we paid him cause he was sick..not cause he didn't want to play here...hopefull Babcock has a loophole here to get out of the 10million payout if this happens

Both the picks are protected, meaning philly will get the pick if it's a good one (top 6 or 8?) The Raps would then get their next years pick unprotected (or almost unprotected. Both picks work this way.

I don't think it's a matter of understanding the cap ... it's a matter of understanding the trade. RAPS get two lottery protected picks, one player who will not play for them for whom they had to shell out $10mil for him to leave, one player who is generally regarded as a good all around small forward but not a starter and one character veteran undersized power forward. So the deal currently stands ...

Out : Vince Carter + $10 mil
In : Two somewhat disgruntled backups + two mid-1st round picks.

As for cap room ... if I remember correctly, the buyout gets pro-rated over the two years and the Williams sisters have atleast one more year each on their contracts ... leading to no immediate CAP relief. Could be wrong though.

depends how drunk I am
Bottom line- trade not looking good 4 Raps

Forget all the cap stuff...contracts had to match in order to get deal done...we understand. But DON'T do a deal just because it makes sense financially; do it if it makes your team BETTER. As it stands now, we have 1 highly paid no-show, 2 has-beens that already want out, and 2 lottery protected picks in years w/ out any clear cut up-and-coming superstars. While giving up a player that is lighting it up (I know, I know...he WANTED to leave, but even when he WAS here this season- he was averaging over 15 pts/game. The Williams' COMBINED aren't even producing that much- plus now they want to be traded).

So Rob Babcock- tell us AGAIN how this deal makes the Raptors better!

If Zo was so interested in joining the Heat. Then, Babcock should have turned the table and ask Zo "how much he would pay to opt out of his contractual agreement." If I'm not mistaken, it takes two parties to sign a contract. Then again, the Raptors have a history of pissing away money.
I wish I could get 10% of the dough they piss away. I'd be rich.
