I know today's power outage was due to a fire/explosion at a sub-station, but with the heat this week don't be surprised if we have rolling black-outs. If we normally keep our temp at 22 degrees in the winter with clothing on...why do people keep it colder in the summer. It makes no sense.

how is it abuse? don't people have the right to set the temperature in their own home?

It's not the heat, it's the humidity. :D

Mine is set at 21 year round

Yes, people have the right to regulate the temp in their homes. However, if a power outage occurs, people also need to understand they are possibly part of the problem.

There is no great solution.

But why so cold, and then complain when there's too much strain on the sysytem and the power goes out.

The abusers include apartments and condo's. My sister-in-law used to own a 30 unit apartment building, they would sometimes need to go in and do work during the day...there would be no one home, yet the lights and tv were on.

.
maybe they like it cold. the problem isnt the demand its the poor job that our leaders have done in planning for the supply

Riiight. People's own behavior can't possibly part of the problem.

I was home today (not out banging some tight young hottie) and I an the house to 24. At night I run the house to 21/22 C - better for sleeping.

If Dalton McAsshole can't import more power to cool our houses he should get the F out of Parliment, or burn in hell.

thats right. if you want to do without air conditioning- go ahead. no one is stopping you. turn off your fridge too. and the pump on your pool. keep the lights off and live in the dark. thats your choice. if we, as a province, had invested in new plants to generate electricity we would have excess power to sell. not worrying about black outs

New plants powered by what exactly? Ontario doesn't exist in a vacuum. You guys already export electricity to the US. You have plenty. The smart thing to do would be to expand your own East-West grid than rely on the Eastern grid with the US. It's maxed out and has been for years. In the meantime people keep finding more stuff to buy that has to be plugged in.

If McAsshole burns in hell, that'll be better.

Why arent you out banging a tight hottie ? Maybe the heat and humidity plus the heat from you banging her will make it rain .......?

'Scuse me? Since when does Ontario regularly export energy to the US? Quebec does, but not Ontario, according to all that I've read from the IESO.

Unless there's a major disaster, you won't be seeing rolling blackouts this summer. Ontario has more electricity generation capacity than it can shake a stick at right now. It's not like a couple years ago where capacity was tapped out and every really hot day was iffy in terms of having enough power on the grid.

There is no perfect solution to AC abusers but the best way is for people to pay the true price of electricity they use. So if you want to pay a premium to run your AC all day, more power to you. But it won't be done on the subsidies of everyone else.

No. It's the humanity. Congenitally slow to learn. We're quite happy outside at 25º, so it's dead extarvagant to cool the house to less than that, and still wasteful to cool it that much when no one's there.

But we're still expecting our grandkids to pick up the tab for our carbon-production and waste-making. Never mind the oil we're soilling so we can set our AC on HI.

Nuclear plants supplied by uranium. we still have hydro projects which have been shelved for years. Gas and coal plants. you're comment on the grid is correct- the interconnections between onatrio and Manitoba/Quebec can carry only a small load. it should be expanded.
