I'm calling the Toronto Star tomorrow to complain about Catherine Porter calling Canada a police state.
In that case, I will call them and thank them for the piece, just to maintain balance.

"Police state" - bit of an overstatement. I do expect that individual officers who violated policy and procedure are punished, but let's not go overboard. I know some people here latch onto anything that paints the government in a bad light, but Canada is not a police state. We're probably the MOST free place in the world. So it's pretty disingenous to pretend that inconveniences are in some way gross violations of their human rights. It demeans the very real human rights abuses people face around the world.
You're disgusting. How would YOU have welcomed the outrage of having a loutish fuckwit in a uniform totally unjustly, and with obvious impunity, stomping on YOUR head, then being subsequently thrown into a filthy lock-up facility while being threatened with charges that might barr you from travelling to the States, etc. How the HELL would you like that? Hmmmm?

I'm fortunate to have some resources at my disposal. Had that happened to me, I would have so tryed to fuck with whoever did that to me with everything I had. This country isn't a police state, but the prevailing attitude of the general population of almost slavish devotion to our police forces is fertile ground for the foundation of one....that I can assure you (just listen to the unwavering support of the police actions enunciated by our redneck-in-chief, Rob Ford).

WTF is it with peoples' generally almost slavish worship of those glorified car jockeys, a.k.a. our police??
All extra-judicial actions by those assholes ought to be brought to light in a full investigation. Any of the blockheads authorizing said use of force against honest citizens exercising their right to dissent should have the heaviest book of justice thrown at their fucking heads.

I've lost alot of respect for our police force. And just because of the lack of response on the part of Vic Toews to this outrageous conduct...I will campaign against our local conservative MP in the next election. I'm PISSED!!

So because you've had one, from your description, bad experience with one bad ass in a police force, the whole system is fucked. Riiiight!. I'll bet your pissed.

For every sad story from a guy like you, I could probably line up three or four of heroism and selflessness. You want to give a try? Go for it.

edit; actually after rereading your post, nothing actually happened to you. You're just venting, but my offer still stands. Wanna play? Hurry though , I gotta go to work.

I'll repeat, I'm sure you're pissed.

So many reports, case after case after case...and you still trot out that BS about anecdotal evidence. Man!!if you are a cop as I suspect, it would be anecdotal evidence that cops are DUMB!!!

All these horror stories about police misconduct and yet I personally had less than 5 interactions with the police in 20 years. In all 5 interactions, I found the police to be professional and polite. Why is that? I have never been randomly stopped on the street. There has never been a "midnight knock" on my door. If Canada is a police state, we need more such police states in the world.

Disclosure: I have never, nor do I have any relatives or friends, affiliated with LE. In fact, I poke fun at York Region LE for protecting their good citizens by busting MP's.

"disgusting?" really? Clearly there is no room here for civil discourse.

Go shout at black helicopters in your tinfoil hats. We'll be here in the real world when you're done.

Buy a dictionary or learn to use google:

The expression anecdotal evidence has two distinct meanings.

(1) Evidence in the form of an anecdote or hearsay is called anecdotal if there is doubt about its veracity; the evidence itself is considered untrustworthy.

(2) Evidence, which may itself be true and verifiable, used to deduce a conclusion which does not follow from it, usually by generalizing from an insufficient amount of evidence. For example "my grandfather smoked like a chimney and died healthy in a car crash at the age of 99" does not disprove the proposition that "smoking markedly increases the probability of cancer and heart disease at a relatively early age". In this case, the evidence may itself be true, but does not warrant the conclusion.

I was referring to meaning #2...you cops ARE as dumb as a post... about the law no less.

So now all cops are dumb.

There are a couple of members on the BB that know my background and they'll laugh their ass off at you thinking I'm a cop, but you've gotten use to people laughing at you by this stage.

I know others have said this to you on a regular basis, but what your point? Is it that not matter what eyes witness reports say about the heroic deed an officer who is being recognized as such it doesn't matter as they've hoodwinked everybody and their recognition is bogus.

The first step is to inform ignoramouses like you... I actually don't plan to live in Canada except for about half the year.
So your solution is to complain impotently on the internet, then run away? Good plan - sounds about right for you. No personal risk, no real committment. Not at all cowardly or shameful.

What country will you be going to? What delightful utopia where there are no plolice and you all live together as peaceful comrades in the warm glow of smug self-satisfction and tinfoil hat lunacy?

Half the year - so you hate Canada enough to defect (no other word for it) but like the free healthcare, huh?

While driving on the highway once, I got caught in a terrible rainstorm. Sheets of rain made it impossible to see. I pulled over onto the shoulder. A few minutes later, an OPP cruiser pulled up beside me and asked if I needed assistance. No, no protestors asked me if I needed help.

One time I saw a strange man sitting on my front lawn. I thought about calling some protestors but decided to call TPD instead. It took a while but a police car showed up, interviewed the gentleman sitting on my lawn and carted him away. I think that gentleman was danmand (hee, hee, hee).

Haha! You got to keep that residency qualification up to date. If he's like Windstar it'll take forever to him to leave.

Actually, the police called me back to say that the gentleman was piss drunk and they drove him down to the station to sober up. He was actually a panhandler who frequented our area at that time.

Yes I have decided to fuck this country for all it is worth. Since politicians have WASTED my tax dollars irresponsibly I feel no guilt about sucking it dry as much as I can.. I plan to stay in different countries every year... maybe that will change I don't know. probably will give up my Canadian residency as well to avoid funding this police state. Although I will sadly still have to pay property taxes. But it's nice to know I can come back an re-claim residency if I really need any super expensive healthcare and that I still qualify for about 75% of CPP when I get old lol....

No I have already contributed far in excess of any benefit I will personally derive unless at some point I have serious health problems. I'm just cutting Canada off MY gravy train. I have not lived of the public teat like cops...

I have seen more people in support of my arguements then your cop boot licking attitude. Between you and Rock all I hear is "never happened to me so it can't be true....I have only met nice cops..." No there are some fantastic cops. But there are enough bad ones out there and enough troubling reports that I want nothing to do with them. I would even be extremely hesitant to report a crime if I saw one in case I get jammed up by one of the dickheads. I would only report a crime if someone is in jeapordy.
