Lol I think you might have been sniffing too many feet. They may outclass Ontario economically now after 8 years of Dalton but Alberta is still paying their bills. Actually outside of Montreal, which is a great city, Quebecers are the biggest rednecks in the country - they hate everyone.
And what do you suppose makes the rest of canada any better? Vancouver has virtually no industry apart from luring naive real estate punters into buying one of their soggy million dollar crack shacks, the east coast has the vigour of a seaside retirement community (such that most of the entrepreneur class that had been enticed into settling there left as quickly as they could), the west pretty just scrapes the earth of anything valuable without adding any value to it, and in Ontario, apart from our financial/insurance/real estate (FIRE) sectors we pretty much just assemble and distribute products conceived and designed elsewhere.

We've had automotive manufacturing here forever, so how come a truly canadian car or even motorbike hasn't emerged from this rich industrial heritage? Quebec, at least, was able to create the ski-doo and now the BRP pro am racer--why couldn't we produce something like that here in supposedly superior Ontario? Koreans produce distinctly Korean cars in Korea and are now becoming rivals to the japanese while we just sell out control of our future as a manufacturing centre to the first CEO that succombs to sufficient taxpayer bribes.

Quite apart from this, quebecers are fun to be around, generally cordial, and they appreciate the social aspect of living a little more than the people in achievement-obsessed Ontario. We could learn a few things from them

I'm from Montreal and I still have friends there; they'd laugh at some of your sentiments.
I was visiting Montreal in 2004 and saw this on one of the houses "English go home." So, I left and came back to Toronto. BTW: If you ever wonder why so many street people on Queen East are from Quebec, it is because the welfare rates are better in Ontario.

Montreal has the most beautiful women in Canada, who are actually Canadian,(from a few centuries)The French Canadians I have met are great.
The scenery makes Ontario look drab. Montreal to St Agathe on the Laurentian Auto route, looked like Austria to me. (never been to Austria)
Most French Canadians speak English, or at least passable English. Most English Canadians don't speak French, or passable French.(me included).
I think we are missing out on a huge piece of Canadian culture by not being familiar with our French Canadian..Canadians. So why am I living in Medicine Hat?

Culture? Only if you're la vraie laine (sp?). Maybe literature like Richler or a cartoonist like Aislin? Oh wait, they're anglos.

Great historic past? What great historic past are we talking about here? The medieval serfdom model of the early French settlers? The stifling control of the Roman Catholic Church? The refusal of French Quebeckers to fight for Canada in both World Wars? The FLQ? Bill 101 and attempts to break up Canada?

Beautiful countryside? You've never been to Prince Edward County or the Niagara Peninsula have you?

Joie de vivre? It seems that those provinces with the least when it comes to economic resources have the greatest "joie de vivre". I remember visiting Montreal a couple of years ago during Grand Prix season and seeing everyone lounging around during the middle of the work day. And the taxis? Terrible! Some sort of old, dirty claptrap.

There's lots more to Quebec............their culture, great historic past, great hockey players, beautiful countryside and their joie de vivre, something we just don't have here in Ontario. We need to enjoy and celebrate life more.

That's for sure! I've been to Austria from end to end; Salzburg to Vienna. I've also been on the autoroute from Montreal to Prevost. No comparison to Austria. You need to get out more.

Really? Your memory seems very short if it forgot about the RIM BlackBerry (from the guys just down the road from TO) which took the mobile world by storm just a few short years ago.

Quebec, at least, was able to create the ski-doo and now the BRP pro am racer--why couldn't we produce something like that here in supposedly superior Ontario? ...... we just sell out control of our future as a manufacturing centre to the first CEO that succombs to sufficient taxpayer bribes.
You do know that Bombardier sold BRP or Bombardier Recreational Products (the snowmobile division) to Bain Capital (bunch of Americans) almost a decade ago, right?

My memory is also going because I forgot about Cervelo...racing bike designers and manufacturers who I met up with in Liberty West Village a few years back.

We need more RIMs...but how well are they doing against the likes of Apple/Google? Our value-added has to be in the creative side of business and that's just harder to pull off over any length of time than our traditional role of branch plant. It's alot cheaper to make stuff in Mexico. BTW, BRP is now owned by members of the bombardier family. The point of my rant was to rebut this kind of smug anglo idea that quebec just kind of sucks while we're the shit over here in the land of Doltan and donut Duncan.

Actually, Quebec does not have much to recommend itself at the moment. It's very corrupt, bureaucratic, debt-ridden, racist, etc. It does have that so-called "joie de vivre" for what that's worth.

So, what has Quebec done that's great recently? The Ski-doo was almost a century ago...

They won the first winter olympics gold medal with Bilodeau on Canadian soil. They typically have great ski aerials, short track skaters and female ice skaters. I love Quebec, had many great times in that province, they're part of our country and its history and it would be a shame to lose all those girls, lol, espeicially in Rimouski, 10 girls for every guy, lol, love that town. What's with all the Quebec bashing anyway???

If I was fluent in French I'd move there in a minute (as it is, I only know Greek.... :p )
I wouldn't move to Greece at the moment, actually for a few decades, lol, poor country will be in bad shape for many years to come.

Does anybody have inter-provincial migration stats? How many Quebecois have emigrated to Ontario and points west in the past 10 years?

BTW: If Ontario is not careful with its finances we will be like Quebec in 10 years and SP fees will drop to $90 an hour:Eek:.
