This is just a tad misleading. They have never beat Italy in the World Cup or European Cup. Germany has beaten Italy in a number of matches
Do you have a link to back that up??

You might be right, I just copied it from another site so I assumed it was accurate

Can UEFA back up its bark against intolerance with real bite? Croatia is under investigation for racial abuse and hate insignias by its supporters. Apart from the monkey chants and bananas, there is no place for WW II Death Squad banners in the 21st Century. Just in case anyone is interested read this:

Did The Quiet Man get through to Balotelli? All the ranting and berating hasn't had much affect on him. But after his post goal tantrum against the Rep of I, Pirlo gave him a look of disappointment in the dressing room. Maybe gesture speaks louder than words...we'll see.

I too would like that final. But worried about Thurs first as Italy played very well against England. If Germany can win Thurs, it will be an excellent final as both Portugal and Spain are
outstanding. I'll be spending as much time in the lobby as I can Thurs watching the game..lol
Kathleen, you're watching The European Classic in the lobby? Come and watch it on my home theater...we'll make a side wager.

Still considered the best match ever played:

It is all over the place if you want to goggle it, but here is one:

http://www.mail.com/int/sports/soccer/1385546-germany-to-poor-record-italy.html

Of seven previous World Cup or European Championship matches, Italy has won three and the others were draws. Italy has a much better overall head-to-head record against Germany, with 14 wins against seven defeats and nine draws.

If we are going with predictions, I think Spain 2-1 over Portugal. Germany 3-1 or 3-2 over Italy.

I think Spain can frustrate Portugal and Ronaldo is awesome, but the team game of Spain will win the day.

In the other match I think Germany has far more talent, and great moment (is it 15 straight wins now) but I don't think Germany has a sound enough defense to predict a shut out against an Italy that seems willing to go forward and attack.

Do they count results form the 1920's though?? Because those arent really reflective on their proper record. Back then national teams werent full developed like they are now.

Uruguay for example won the WC twice, but thats because only a dozen or so countries entered into those world cups
A fine effort but Germany has beaten Italy much more recently than the 20's.

Here is the complete series history:

And if you want to look at it that way...we must also consider German was West Germany for a number of those matches.

It's difficult to quantify what the rivalry of The European Classic is based on. There isn't the love/hate of the French, nor the disdain of the English and it isn't quite the mutual respect of the Spanish. They share a common history that goes back to the mid 19th Century. Both nations were battlegrounds for neighboring nations but that changed when they helped each other unite. Prussian mercenaries fought with Garibaldi during The Resurgimento and Italian troops were allied with the Germans during the Bruderkrieg and The Franco-Prussian War. Shortly after that they established the oldest Free Trade Deal and Germany has been Italy's No. 1 trading partner ever since.

So in light of all that how about some Italo-Germanic musik.

Their common history goes back a tad farther than that. Italy has been a disputed part of the HRE for centuries. Even Dante had to choose sides.

So far, no one has played Spain as well in this tournament as Portugal did. They stayed true and tough to their plan and shut down most of the counter attack. In the last 15 minutes, Spain played well and could have scored but not well enough.

Where Portugal messed up was on the penalty kicks. CR7 going last means he didn't even get to kick. Then the flip flop with Alves and Nani meant there wasn't a clear plan going in. Casillas' strength is the penalty. However, Spain can't score against Portugal, Germany will prove tougher. A rock solid defense led by Lahm and a relentless counter attack in Gomez, Müller and Podolski.

Assuming that of course Italy.....oh wait. Sorry.

I agree. I am a fan of the Spaniards but based on preparation and effort, the Portuguese deserved to win.

I am not sure if Spain came out to surprise Portugal by totally changing tactics or whether Portugal was so well prepared that they nullified Spain's tiki-taka game.

Lots of chances at both ends, but both offences always so well checked and rushed that accuracy and execution was extremely difficult.

Some might consider it dull game because there were no goals scored, but I thought it was a very well played game. Like a pitcher's duel...

If Spain can win this Euro they will IMO go down as the best team ever to play the game of soccer
