I was not so much impressed by Ballotelli, as with Pirlo, who is a magnificent soccer player.
I also think Pirlo is a magnificent player, very classy. Great goal.....
Balotelli was selfish, the Italians have great defense but their forward is very on-coordinated. You want to see some team "play" just look at Germany/Spain.
Although I'm happy Italy won.

England were brutal. Glen Johnson had that chance early and pretty much nothing much after that, simply couldn't hold the ball. Italy deserved to advance.

That being said I don't think Germany is worried too much.

I am not a soccer fan, that said, I do appreciate watching these athletes perform. Like a game of hockey these guys show great passing ability on the fly and the play-making is wonderful to watch. It is a treat brought to us every couple of years and I do like watching it. I look forward to the upcoming games.

Italy's problem is scoring goals, they only have 4 gls in 4 gms. Germany has double that, thats whats gonna make the difference.

Also Germany will want revenge for 2006 world cup

England did very well considering so many were missing and Roony was quite poor (by his standards).

I think they had a problem hanging on to the ball in every game in the tournament. I can't see Italy beating Germany. So we can expect Germany vs Spain in the final.

I wouldn't be so sure on Spain. Portugal has had good luck sending the ball into the back of the net. They seem to be ascending during the tournament.

England have a problem holding onto the ball for as long as Ive been following them in the World Cup 98. They pass the ball around like a hot potato losing more control with every pass until they lose posession completely.

Against top teams in the knockout stages it seems their best strategy is to defend for their lives and try and hang on for penalties while their opponents ping the ball around them with ease.

This may work but for the fact that I've now seen them lose 4 penalty shootouts in the quarterfinals since WC 98, bringing their total shootout record to a whoping 1-7 all time.

I have this strange feeling Portugal might be able to spring a surprise against Spain this week. But not enough to put $$$ on it :)

Germany have never beaten Italy, and thats going back all the way to 1962. Their record is 0-5-5

This is just a tad misleading. They have never beat Italy in the World Cup or European Cup. Germany has beaten Italy in a number of matches.

England doesnt have the right players for the modern game. No equivalent to Germany's Ozil, Italy's Pirlo, Spain's Xavi - a passing supremo.

In the game against Italy, Pirlo was the highest passer with 131 passes. England's highest passer was defender Ashley Cole with 44. 13 of Italy's 14 players had a pass completion rate over 80%. England had only 5 players in that category.

Message to England: True grit wont cut it. Even Germany has changed considerably.
It was such a pity that England lost that fine young Canadian midfielder to terrible injuries. I think he could well have filled this role for England.

You are talking about Hargreaves. Yes a sad history of long-term injuries.

They have Jack Wilshire coming through as a strong mid-fielder and amongst the old guard Lampard is still playing. Cruelly for England both missed this championship with several others including Jack Rodwell.

Still despite all those missing players they did well to make the quarter finals and with a bit more luck with the penalties they could be the ones playing Germany.

I saw the match a bit differently then most, England has mastered catenaccio. A significant step forward from the skittish England defense of the past. If they can put together a group of decent midfielders there could be silverware in their future. I had coffee with the padroni this morning and none of them are a least bit worried about Germany.

I have always been a fan of Lampard and he was missed. The quarters is a good result, but I did not think England played that well against Italy.

I was reading some of the comments of Germany's coach and he certainly felt England has made significant progress since they last played in South Africa.

I really want to see Germany v. Spain... the Blitzkrieg v. The Chess Master... speed and power v. orchestrated genius... a repeat of Euro 2008 and the 2010 World Cup semifinal... great soccer... a clash between the masters of two different styles... I can never get enough of it!
