You know who Josh Johnson reminds me of? A.J. Burnett. He even looks a bit like Burnett. I missed his first start, but watching this game from Detroit it seems he quickly gets to a 2 strike count, then won't throw in the strike zone. 30+ pitches for the first inning? Jeez....

if Happ is the best Jays got, they are in trouble. To date the starters suck.It has to get better and soon!

Not sure what the term would be but so far they are all having the opposite of career years. Totally contrary to their historical forms. No way to predict that.

Game one, second inning. 2-0 Cleveland.

Is it too early to push the panic button ? lol
With the Jays down by multiple runs at this very moment against Detroit....and on their way to another loss...uhhh....maybe it wasn't....but....maybe your are one helluva a Jays Nostradamus!!!

Starting pitching was supposed to be their big strength this season. But all the so called big names they brought in have shit the bed do far. And the offence has struggled as well. It's early but come on guys.

Here
3 and 6...

Too early to panic but this is, so far, at the very least a gigantic embarrassment!

The thing is that we've been crushed multiple times already. these are not close losses. Too many games our starting pitching just gets annihilated, And our hitters don't do jack crap.

Yeah, this is the most worrisome sign of all. Losing a few 3-2 games or 5-4 games would be one thing, getting bombed 13-0 and 10-1 is quite another.

And the Jays are boring as hell to watch. No chemistry on the team whatsoever.

Ah well, there's always 2014

Actually, with scores like that, the manager is a non-factor.

When he has to make crucial decisions in a tight game (steals, pitching changes, pinch hitters) etc. he can be a difference maker. In these cases, no decisions he makes will have an impact.

The only guys pulling their weight are Reyes, Arencibia and Janssen and Happ (just one start).

If it were Sept. 13th the season would be a write-off, relax its only April 11th. 155 to go.

What concerns me are the runs being given up in the first inning. It was mentioned in today's game that the Jays have been outscored 9-2 in the first inning so far, in the first 9 games. Also, the starters have been using 20+ pitches in the first inning, meaning they won't go deep into the game. If the starters have been inadequately prepared then Pete Walker has some 'splainin to do.

The starters were supposed to eliminate the issue of the bullpen being overused last year due to the lack of depth of starters when 3 guys went down in 4 days. All 3 acquisitions were guys who were supposed to go deep on a reliable basis.

As I said before, R.A., JJ and Buehrle are doing way worse than what their history would indicate.

Despite being off to a good start, a trip to K.C migh be just what the dr. ordered. Little nicer weather, small market team so not as much media around, hopefully guys can relax and settle in. Once they get on a bit of a roll, that should help. There is no question this team is better than what it's shown, and I promise this is the bottom. It only gets better from here. The question is, are they going to be good enough??? I still believe they are playoff bound and won't change my mind unless they have a terrible record at the 54 game mark (1/3 the season). At that point, I might start wavering from what I think team really is.

I said it either in this thread already or the "overhyped blue jays" thread. The 89 blue jays were about 8 games back and barely 500 and came back to win the division. the yankees have started off the year like this tons of times in the past decade. Look how many post seasons they've made. Playing almost everyday for 6 months is a marathon, not a sprint.

KC seems to be an up and coming team. Lots of good young arms and in first place (last time I looked).

Hope you're right.
Thing is, as bad as start we're off too, we're only 2 games back of first in the division. Going to be like this all year long and with 10 teams now making the playoffs, (which I don't like at all) I just can't see our team not getting in.
