Well in this case they have finally stepped up to the plate:

"Paris (AFP) - French imams condemned violence committed in the name of Islam during Friday prayers as the country reeled from the double hostage dramas that followed the massacre at Charlie Hebdo magazine.

The same message -- distancing the country's five million Muslims from the jihadists responsible for the attacks -- was relayed at more than 2,300 mosques across France.

"We denounce the odious crimes committed by the terrorists, whose criminal action endangers our willingness to live together," said the rector of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Dalil Boubakeur.

He also appealed to "all the Muslims of France" to take part in demonstrations planned for Sunday to pay homage to the 12 victims of the attack on Charlie Hebdo on Wednesday, the bloodiest in France in more than half a century.

In local mosques across the country, imams condemned the jihadists who claimed they were avenging the Prophet Mohammed by shooting dead some of France's best-known cartoonists at the satirical weekly.

Charlie Hebdo had angered many Muslims by repeatedly publishing cartoons that featured the Prophet as it lampooned Islamist extremists.

Muslim groups had taken the magazine to court over the drawings but had lost.

"The people who carried out that attack in the name of Islam are not Muslims... The Prophet did not advocate violence against non-Muslims," Abdel Qader Achour, of the conservative Omar Ibn Al Khattab mosque not far from Charlie Hebdo's offices, insisted.

"France is our country, we have been here for three or even four generations, and we should not be afraid," he said as around one thousand of the faithful gathered to pray.

"To a cartoon you reply with a cartoon, to a drawing with a drawing, to a newspaper article with a newspaper article... But you don't reply with guns," said Mustafa Riad of the Union mosque in the southern city of Montpellier.

Muslim theologian Tareq Oubrou, an imam in Bordeaux, in the southwest, said Muslims were furious that their religion had been "confiscated by crazies... and uneducated, unbalanced people". (If only more Muslims felt this way and talked about it)

Muslim leaders fear that the Charlie Hebdo attack will lead to further hostility and attacks against their community.

"Muslims are caught in a trap, between those who kill in the name of Islam and those who are using this to stigmatise Muslims," said Abdallah Zekr, the president of the French Muslim Council (CFCM).

Up to 390 French jihadists are thought to be fighting in Syria, according to the latest estimates, and around 60 have died fighting with extremist groups there.

Muslim Amine Guellil, a 47-year-old estate agent, said: "A good Muslim would never shoot anyone, those who do that cannot be Muslims."

Two of the victims of the Charlie Hebdo massacre were Muslims, with policeman Ahmed Merabet shot in cold blood as he tried to stop the terrorists fleeing the scene"

It's a start but I'd like to see more than just words from these groups. For one they need to co-operate better with police and intelligence agencies to help identify potential terror suspects.

YEP, a good start, but still waiting for a Muslim to turn in another Muslim, or is that against their religion?

Why would you think you would hear about it ? In Canada there was a police official that said the lion's share of tips they receive concerning potential terrorists are from the Muslim community.

How many "je suis Charlie" bumper stickers will you see on Cars owned by Muslims residing in no-go Muslim enclaves around France?

How many will you see in Canada? I'd rather see real efforts to root out terrorists than platitudes in the form of rhetoric or silly bumper stickers.

In the immediate aftermath of the murder of two Canadian soldiers I did hear some voices from the Canadian Muslim community say that the two Muslim Converts were not real Muslims.

These Muslim enclaves are similar to our "black ghettos". You do not rat on another Muslim or black (Dudley Laws's rule). If you do, you die.

1st you doubt anybody would hear about a Muslim tuning another in,...then you say,...this happens all the time,...???

Don't get me wrong,...if this in fact a regular accordance,...the community should be praised,...but I also guess this would be committing suicide if people were named.

I myself have not heard any evidence of this happening, but hope this is the case.

I heard on the radio that ISIS killed 124 of their members who tried to leave. Looks like the only way to leave ISIS (like the mafia) is in a box.

Wasn't one of the officers killed a muslim, I heard he surrender and they still shot him?

They're outraged over drawings but didn't mind killing their fellow muslim, truly messed up individuals.

No huge surprise. If you were a muslim in France right now, wouldn't you be declaring yourself a 'moderate' too? Kind of an obvious move towards self-preservation, given the tension levels there this week.

It's a start, but the problem is that a huge number of Muslims support what happened in France and even those who don't support it understand it and basically say "they should have known better"

Don't know how Islam is set up or governed, they don't seem to have a pope (so to speak) . If they do that person needs to speak out and stop this shit already.

The problem is the Arab countries along with Iran and Pakistan promoted terrorist groups abroad for years for various reasons, probably mostly lack of accountability. Iran created Hezbollah, Saudi Arabia created Al Qaeda, and Pakistan created the Taliban. Maybe originally they thought they could control them, but now all three are waging bloody wars, in Syria and in Pakistan as well as Afghanistan, and the ISIS debacle in Iraq.

The average Muslim in Canada or the US does not support any of this, but within the militaries of those Muslim nations there are indeed supporters of terror.

Dude......you totally missed my point! If you don't get it, trying to waste my time explaining it to you isn't going to help
