I think this is just the tip of the ice burg. Wait tell the draft...Kessel and Kadri to the Hurricanes for there 5th pick and some stiff?:biggrin1:
Why not, remember, Babcock would never come to TO.Steven Stamkos? Now why would he leave a Stanley Cup contender for years to come to play with a club that is years away from even making the playoffs?
Players can't sign 10 yr. deals. Now we have Babcock. After 3 years (2018) in Edmonton when McDavid's entry level contract expires (RFA) the Leafs offer him a 10 year $150 million contract. Mark my words.
And who is the Leafs GM?That's the stupidest quote of the day !
You need talent, and that's why you need a GM who can get them. They don't grow on trees, don't they ?
Make that 7 years then. And I believe the max a player can make is $15million/year.Players can't sign 10 yr. deals.
He can get his big bucks in TB and still play on a winning team. Why not, remember, Babcock would never come to TO.
Home town team, BIGGGGGG BUCKS
A guy named Shanahan-Hunter-Babcock-Dubass.And who is the Leafs GM?
I doubt the Leafs could fit that kind of money under the cap, and I don't think you can pay anyone $15 million a yr. and Edmonton would have the right to match that offer and he'd be stuck in Edmonton for another 8yrs. Same thing happened to Weber in Nashville, the Flyers made him an offer sheet and Nashville matched and he's going to be there awhile. But I think he's happy to be in Nashville. Best chance to get McDavid is to wait until he becomes an UFA, that's assuming he does become a superstar and that he wants to leave Edmonton. Now we have Babcock. After 3 years (2018) in Edmonton when McDavid's entry level contract expires (RFA) the Leafs offer him a 10 year $150 million contract. Mark my words.
Shanny is a hands on president who has given a lot of power to his assistants who report to him. Many (hockey experts) thought Babcock will never come to Toronto. So you never know. Throw $50 million at Ken Holland and let's see.
No salary cap for coaches. There is a cap for team and individuals. So you can't just double the current highest salary like the leafs did with Babcock, or offer an unheard of term. Why not, remember, Babcock would never come to TO.
Home town team, BIGGGGGG BUCKS

He would get 8,7,56m - 8yrs, 7m = 56m because it is his original team that is resigning with.He can get his big bucks in TB and still play on a winning team.
Is there a maximum an individual player may earn?I doubt the Leafs could fit that kind of money under the cap, and I don't think you can pay anyone $15 million a yr.
And Edmonton matches.
Hall is a untouchable but I would take Eberle. RNh is to soft for my liking.Good that would force Edmonton in a not so great cap situation. They would have unload their other stars like Eberle, Hall, RNH. Plus the Leafs won't have to compensate draft picks.
Joe Thornton is old and has never won anything. Plus he won't fit in Shanny's rebuild process. After, hopefully, getting rid of Kessel and Phaneuf what about trading for Joe Thorton, the power forward we haven't had since Sundin and oh so desperately need.
His contract isn't all that bad. 2015-17 Contract $6,750,000 per yr - Cap hit $6,750,000
Eberle is clutch by only if there is maple leaf on the jersey (ie. team Canada).Hall is a untouchable but I would take Eberle. RNh is to soft for my liking.
That would be the same problem the Leafs would have if they tossed $14 million a year at any player, they wouldn't have enough money left to build a decent team around him. The trick is to keep your top players under long term deals and be able to find some value added guys who fit in well and are affordable. Chicago is a good example of a team that has juggled things well, after they won the cup a few yrs. back they had to let go of several good players but were able to replace them with good role players and have continued to be a cup contender for the last several yrs. and will continue to be a favourite to win in the future.Good that would force Edmonton in a not so great cap situation. They would have unload their other stars like Eberle, Hall, RNH. Plus the Leafs won't have to compensate draft picks.
