Complete BS. Winning the WS isn't about who has the best baseball team, it's about what team happens to be hot in October.
accept reality

the best teams will most likely be the teams that get hot and we have to get hot just
to get WC as the three spots are very competitive

the odds of us being a WC team and winning the show is 5 percent
by my calculations, based on history, so instead of losing our stars
to FA let us get some young talent for them , retain a decent core,
and go from there

I'm interested your calculations too.

LOL. Some of you guys are too funny.

I believe he has 21 saves in 24 opportunities. 2.6 ERA. Career ERA of 2.5. Whip of 1.12

It sounds like he needs to allow no base hits, let alone no blown saves to satisfy some people. Even an out is no good if the ball is hard hit.

Seriously, tell me how many relievers have better stats?

Based on that, Vladdy must be the best hitter in the game with all of his GIDPs because so many are off of hard hit balls.
It is true on paper, he looks outstanding…… but in actuality, he makes way too many outings more interesting than they need to be, and he basically needs a clean ninth. Bring Romano in with runners in scoring position and it’s 50/50. A true closer gets you out of jams. Not just comes in to pitch one clean inning for the score cards. They baby him, and I think anyone can do his job.

I sure as hell don’t feel comfortable with him in a tie score with RISP. He ain’t no nasty boy that’s for sure.

Wouldn't our stars be our core?
there would be a core left to build around plus with what we get for them and then we pick up some FAs maybe even some of those we let go if not they would be gone anyways
so we gave up nothing except this year which is going no where

as a bonus we lose their salary for rest of year

I can’t believe this team is one game out of the final wildcard. They would also be in first place in the National League central I believe. I’m not cross referencing stats. This is off the top of my head..My goodness what a sad state of affairs. Never mind the fact that in 2023 stealing a base is like taking candy away from a baby.

Baseball is probably one of my true loves in life. I can’t even watch these losers play a full game right now. I’m sick and tired of looking at Vladimir Guerrero and his 9 home runs. I’d rather watch an O.J. Simpson documentary on YouTube come game time.

….. and how convenient, he’s blown games and saves with other pitchers runners coming in to score. He keeps his own ERA undesirably low. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

He leads the majors in saves and is 12 for his last 12. There's gotta be more than just luck going on there.

As I asked before, are there any better options?

My two favourite pitchers of all time. Roger Clemens and Duane Ward. They may be 60 now, but I’ll take them instead of Romano lol.

Literally no truth to this what so ever. For whatever reason, you can continue to think he's not a good closer, but he's literally one of the best in baseball right now. The numbers don't lie.

An elite closer on a winning team usually has at least one exceptional pitch. Occasionally, an elite closer will have 3 very good pitches that contrast and complement each other. Romano does not fit either prototype. He has 2 pitches that are way above average but not exceptional. If he is just a bit off with one of his pitches, he is vulnerable. Even when both pitches are on, good hitters are able to square up if they guess what he will throw. That being said, Romano is a good relief pitcher. He's just not an elite closer.

Back in the day, we'd say 'He's pretty good, for a Canadian'.
