If you have critical files, you should always keep a hard copy in a safe place, then save a copy to your computer, then back up. No storage medium is 100% safe.It depends on your use case. If you're storing critical files that you cannot afford to lose like health, legal, financial, etc. then optical might be a better option. You'd also need to keep a spare drive somewhere if and when you need to access those files. Drives and adapters are widely available today, but you can't count on that.
The last time I've seen optical disc used was when my mother got x-rays done and the clinic gave her the disc to give to another clinic.
Too each his own.Until the SSD fails and you can’t recover your data. It happened to me more than once, so don’t try to convince me otherwise.
I've had more Optical discs come up as unreadable than SSDs fails.
