Why does everyone have to "take a side" in your world? Can't people be just crazy, have legit mental illness depression, schizophrenia, social isolation or jsut be fucked up by living in a dysfunctional religious, right wing, gun toting family neighbourhood and state? Like Mormons who wear fucking Holy Underwear?!?! Imagine being a normal kid who gets indoctrinated by their Mormon Priest father and all the rest of the stuff that he would have to go along with. But feeling that a lot of their teachings don't make sense. Maybe the kid was gay himself and felt that he couldn't come out without being cast out by his father and family.
So back to taking sides... Get out-SIDE for a while and get outside your Political Terrarium. In real life, I almost never hear talk of politics or religion.
Mormons have those sovereign citizen or remnants of the Independent Party types. They think the Republicans are too liberal. The Bundy's are examples.

I dont know whether the shooter is right or left wing but we know about "fascist, catch" and "bella ciao" which are antifa slogans. Doesnt really fit with a radical right winger but we ll see.
I'd say killing a person is a decision making moment. And every indication at this point is he was a normal guy. No reports of erratic behavior. In school for a trade. Family and friend connections. No social media rants.
Notice I didn't say which side, just that he made a decision that Kirk was enough of a threat to his beliefs that he needed to be killed. Until he tells us, we don't know. By the same token until a diagnoses of mental illness comes into play I'm assuming he is sane, sober. Add in no manifesto, and an attempt to plan to get away, including dumping the weapon and switching clothes, shows some intelligence.

I would believe that the FBI guys in Utah have a lot of experience and weren't hired under a Trump Administration.
Like every large organizations, they have their own biases as individual and collectively. However, let's be patient and see where this all plays out.
