The irony of a calorie deficit post and it's going on five pages in what could have just been one page.

It was answered in 3-4 posts. LOL.

I'm almost ready to delete the whole thread now. It is getting way beyond what it needed to be.

I wouldn't delete it. In the end, everyone can do what they feel works for them, even if they are wrong. LOL

One option that should be considered by calorie counters: If you must count/control calories, go high, not low.

By that I mean, INCREASE your caloric intake, from say 2,000 to 2,500 calories a day, and then get your physical exercise up to 3,000.

Do you really believe the average person trying to lose weight and get fitter can realistically burn 3,000 calories a day through exercise? That’s not happening unless we’re talking about athletes or someone training like one.

If you meant increasing to 3,000 calories because you’re exercising more, fine, but if the goal is fat loss, that’s still a mistake.

Someone earlier mentioned that when they’re in a calorie deficit, they can tell because they feel a little hungry during the day, and that’s absolutely true. It’s a simple and effective indicator. At the same time, filling up on low-calorie, high-volume foods goes a long way in keeping hunger in check and making it easier to stay consistent while your body’s asking for more.

I really didn’t think this thread would blow up and with so many “experts”.

I’m not saying I know everything but calories in/out is the most proven method and the one I prefer to follow. I made a few mistakes last year that I won’t make this year.

One of this is calories required change as your weight goes down. If you need 2000 at 175lb you may only need 1500 at 150lbs. Age also plays a factor in how many calories you need so. I didn’t take that into account last year. It is part of the reason people have trouble losing that last 10 lbs, they eat the same calories as they did when they were heavier, not realizing they need less. They think they have a 500 calorie deficit when really they may only have 100.

I’m not worried about losing weight. I don’t even have a goal weight in mind. I have a look and feel in mind. When I get to that, I will start maintenance. I will use @bodyshot method then to figure out maintenance calories for that weight at that time. Just not spending weeks doing it now when I know I will have enough of a deficit with my plan to make it work. Why delay a couple of weeks of weight loss when I don't have too
What Is a Calorie Deficit? How to Calculate It for Weight Loss

There ya go.

Your body is not your enemy, so why is it asking for more?

Well, the average person is pretty much becoming obese. But their genes haven't changed from hundreds of years ago. So that average person transported back in time would likely not be obese. They eat differently than their ancestors, and they have far less activity.

So your answer is , yes, the average person has it in them to live like their ancestors did.

No-one has addressed the Amish. They eat like elephants, but they are about 10 times less likely to be obese than the rest of the population.

And yes, I was referring to using exercise to bring you up to a total of 3000 calories.

It is so RIDICULUOUS that people think the natural way for humans to be healthy is to make themselves purposefully hungry more or less all the time. And when I say hungry, I mean hungry from caloric so-called deficit.

What other animal does that? Are you SERIOUSLY saying that the NATURAL, healthy state is to be hungry?

It isn't. it is to be very active, then be very hungry for a meal, have a nice big nutritious balanced dinner that is totally satisfying, then to do that every day.

The evidence shows so clearly that caloric deficit does not work LONG TERM, so there is zero point in going that route. How many times have I seen very heavy people getting all serious, going that route, losing 50, 75 pounds, then they gain it all back and more. There are a few exceptions, but not many.

Remember I said it's a lifestyle. When you reach your goal, you return to maintenance but should stay in place and as Greg says, "work harder than last time". AS I mentioned, you do your thing if it works, but I suspect you are carrying some extra poundage around the gut. Just a hunch.

This is true. The funny thing is - I didn't ask anyone HOW to lose weight. I didn't ask for weight loss advice or opinions on what people think works. I asked a specific question about calorie deficit pertaining to diet and exercise combined to help with calculations. Nothing more.

If I wanted opinions on how to lose weight, j would have asked that. I already have the plan I want to go with. I don't care what the opinions of others are on how they think weight loss should be but it seems that is what this thread turned into. Which is the only reason I want to delete it. But part of me wants to keep it as well, if only to come back and update my progress. LOL.

In the end - I probably will end up deleting it though if it keeps going this route. It is just getting annoying at this point and I can’t seem to turn the notifications for it off.

ALthough , once you reach your goal, won't it be satifying to come back to this thread and post!

NYA NYA, I did it, fuck you!!! OK, you can be nicer about it but it is funnier my way. LOL

Could be satisfying but when it comes down to being right and less annoyed, I chose the latter I think. I don't need to be right on the internet, just in life is fine by me.

We will see...... For now Game 2 will keep me occupied for the night. LOL

You should definitely delete the thread.

Post #3 had an article that supposedly answered all your questions.

That same article said you should consult a doctor and seek help from certified dietitian. It also said that anyone with underlying medical conditions could make things worse approaching weight loss with dyi attempt. None of those seemed to resonate with you.

Keep doing what you do. Your body, your choice. Your thread, delete or don't.

😂😂😂😂😂😂

My way of taking out my losing frustration eh???? Not a bad idea now that you mention it. The threads life hangs in the balance of the World Series. Jays win - it stays, Jays lose - it’s toast.

I'm so very sorry I'm not taking your advice and contacting a professional. Why you are so butthurt about it is beyond me but there you go. I apologize for choosing not to listen to you specifically.

Stubborn because I’m not listening to you? At least I know squeezer, I don’t know you. LOL

I will do what I want and what I think is right for me. If I fail, I will own that but I won't. I didn't last year - I won't this year.

Seems more like you are stubborn and can't handle when someone doesn't do what you tell them. If you truly didnt care, you wouldn't keep coming back here trying to tell me what to do.

Don't weigh yourself every day. Water/salt intake can cause fluctuations in your weight unrelated to your calorie intake. A weekly weigh-in will reduce your anxiety and frustration.
I will not weigh myself daily. I may not even do weekly. This is not about a "goal weight". It is about a look and feel. I will never go down to 125lbs. I don't want to be that weight. I don't even care all that much if I stay the weight number that I am. It is not really about the number on the scale.

The only time I will weigh daily is when I take @bodyshot advice for finding the best maintenance calorie intake for my weight at the time. Then from there, maybe a monthly weigh in to ensure I am still maintaining. IF I dont start full weight training for muscle which is probably my next route. So I will have to see at that time.

That was my mistake this summer, besides some things that came up that stopped the self care plan I had, I used a metric for what was suppose to be my ideal calorie intake to maintain my weight and it wasn't what was right for me.

Leave the thread then. No one asked you to be here. You can't say what is a waste of "everyone's time" Just what is a waste of yours and if you feel it is a waste, leave the thread and don't come back. Bye. 👋🏻
