Not really. Plenty of places around the world that are looking promising. Even of the advanced economies, the US is still the best bet once it stops gnawing on its arm. Canada, the UK, the EU, we’re not looking so good. At all.
Lol. The US, once it hits hard, is going to become a huge mess. No safety net, medical disasters. They got off easy this year on natural disasters but I predict a hurricane hit next year.

I think civil unrest is coming. At some point these ICE raids are going to cause the guns to come out. And once that happens the streets could become war zones. Economic inequality is going to be massive, and more CEO'S may get shot. Especially if Luigi gets off.

I see more Charlie Cook style assassinations of media figures. A Caribbean war as the Feds seek to distract.

Lots of bad possibilities

Yeah but much of the rest of the world is unemployed, broke and overpopulated.

What's our excuse?
As I stated, we are top 20 in the world in almost every metric that matters. So in fact we are doing well.

If you want perfection it doesn't exist. People get in the way of it.

That's good.

Is it ok with you that I state grocery prices are become a concern to Canadians? Or should us commoners just keep our heads down and stay quiet?

Of course it needs to be addressed. But this is about corporations fucking people over. Unless you are suggesting putting in govt mandated price controls?

Me, I go to No Frills, stock up on sale products, avoid most processed food, and do little take out. But I also support local creators for things like jams, farmers markets, wine, and other things.

What's your actual solution?

I'm not going to get deep into any derailing conversations in this thread.

But what I will say to everyone in this thread is Retirement planning needs to be the top issue in your life. Because people will tell you Canada is top 20 in every metric but when you are over 70 years old and have to wait several months for a surgery, these metrics mean nothing.

I agree. And one of the best ways to do that is not spend money stupidly, limit bad debt, and live within your means. And eat and live healthy.

Steak, salmon, and even ground beef are very expensive now. The price of fruits is absolutely ridiculous.

I don't know if it's because of the season but strawberries were as low as 3.99 for me, now it 6.99. Then I switched to generic brand greek yogurt but the quantity is still on the small side.

These this chip away at our spending.

I don’t think the ICE raids will continue for very long. Trump’s approval rating is in the toilet, and now his core base is fracturing for the first time since 2015. He’s getting to numbers so low that astute observers said was impossible given the cult comprises 33% of voters at any given point in time.

And that’s all besides the bigger issue that America is too important for it to fail or fall into unrest. Lots of billionaires and centimillionaire wealth is tied to Pax Americana. If things get too out of hand, best believe the deep state will be mobilized and even parts of the army and put down “unruly, unpatriotic, infiltrated” elements with the media, including fox, quickly falling in line and backing the system.

A country with our wealth, natural resources, geography, and human capital should not be top 20. It should be top 5. Actual banana republics have managed their nations better than we have.

I use top twenty because the difference in the top twenty is negligible. We pretty much match up with the g20, and surpass on many metrics. Consistently hit top 5 places to live in the world in various ranking systems, although how they weigh is varied.

These things are subjective.

Stephen Miller is the architect of immigration policy. He won't stop until he is dead. I'm not kidding. That man is the real threat.

And when you ate talking about the best armed and most individualistic nation on earth, any crackdown with only increase things.

Commodity prices can play a big role for the wealth portion.

I don’t believe the difference in median outcomes of say the average young person in South Korea, and the average young person in say the United Stares, are the same. There’s clearly a wild gulf in opportunity and the quality of life available to one vs the other.

I think it’s unacceptable to compare ourselves to nations in the top 20, many of whom do not have any natural resources, are landlocked, have a lopsided demographic structure, and many other economic headwinds, and still outperformed us over the past 2 decades. Among the G7, we have had the lowest GDP per capita growth over the past decade, the lowest productivity growth (and that’s saying something with laggards like the UK), the quickest accumulation in unproductive debt among the G7, and the worst forecast among the G20 according to the IMF and other macros over the next 2 decades. If we don’t get our act together, we can easily fall into upper middle-income status by mid-century.

I think there were good signs that the economy was turning around with new job creations and even my attitude changed. For me , things went from being slow, to picking right up in one of the worst months of the year. I'm not complaining , but I would hope that it's a reflection of people's changing attitudes towards the economy. The biggest reason why this month has been good though is because some of the people that I see on a regular basis have come into a significant amount of money. I've had more inquiries about my services , but that doesn't translate to money in my hand.

I live pretty comfortably and I have no overhead but I have a lot of tire kickers. All my bills are paid but I can't go out and buy whatever I want whenever I feel like it. Someone wrote a review about me a little less than a week ago and over the past few days ive had 3 black men try to use my number as a dating service. I'm not saying the review was bad. I really appreciate it , but it didn't bring me any extra business really. It still stayed the same but since the review there seems to be a lot of people that think i'm looking for a boyfriend or theyre just inquiring but they dont quite have the money or they're too nervous. I've had a lot of newbies message me and then get cold feet. I'm still doing okay but things were a lot easier last year for sure.

Newbies are great , but I would much rather have an experienced person who's not going to panic at every little thing.

People like to spend money in Dec. Those new jobs were part time and Xmas help. I do hope the economy turns around. My busiest time of year usually Sept to Christmas and my phone stopped ringing the first week of November but I'm booked solid during the winter. I'm a contractor and things sure have changed since covid. I'm still trying to figure it out the last few years.
