We only have half the story thus far, but this is an interesting one.
She was not at a border port (crossing) although the incident occurred in Waddington, New York, a town on the St. Lawrence River (down which the border runs at that point) this was a U.S. Border Patrol "interior checkpoint." The woman in question who is a U.S. Citizen was traveling between two points in the U.S., indeed I believe between two locations in Waddington. The Border Patrol Agents described her as being "nervous" they looked in her vehicle and observed nothing other than her Labrador puppy, they asked to search the trunk, she refused. They detained her for a substantial period of time while they sent for a sniffer dog. After the tasering etc. . . they found absolutely nothing in her vehicle.
Basically this boils down to was this the border where the rules are extremely loose even though she had not crossed the border, or was this a vehicle stop along the lines of the U.S. Supreme Court decision of a few weeks back holding that after a traffic stop has been completed, police cannot continue to detain a motorist while awaiting the arrival of a K-9 unit unless they have Probable Cause. Thus far unless the U.S. Border Patrol has Probable Cause for an Immigration Violation, they have to play by the normal rules at these "interior checkpoints."
If the government doesn't "roll over" this very well may be a case which goes all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The border guard said that she could go . The other female guard said that she assaulted the guard . That's bull shit . That guard is a piece of shit . The more I see stuff like this the more I hate people with badges . It's getting to a point where I have no feelings when I see enforcement officers getting hurt in the field .
Drive a couple of spikes into his or her backs and see how they like it.
Nothing wrong with knowing your rights . The cops give you a line of garbage when they don't even know the law themselves . I hope that guy's wife gets stopped by a peace officer and she gets a few spikes in her back .
Yes, the agent said she could go. So instead of going, she decided to be a mouthpiece bitch to the officers. Yes, nothing wrong with people knowing their rights. Like I said, people quite often think they do when they don't. But as aardvark says, we only know part of this story. We don't see why she was stopped or pulled over, only her pulling out her camera phone and her mouth.

By the time rights are undone to the point where YOU object, it's already too late.
Standing up for ones rights is not an issue if one does so respectfully. She was giving the "badges" attitude about not popping her trunk, that in and of itself, gave the "badges" probably cause for suspicion. The woman that got tased, has only herself to blame for escalating things. Its like she was ASKING for it. If she had nothing in her trunk, pop the hatch and show them... she would have been on her way in seconds. 
We don't but the "reason" for the stop was she was within 100 miles of the U.S. Border. Her version of the reason she was detained was that they told her "she looked nervous."

I agree she was stupid about it. It reminds me of the Chris Rock video on how not to get arrested. But stupid isn't an excuse for LE to fuck you up. Because one day, what you feel is legitimately "standing up for your rights" won't be seen that way and if LE feel they can get away with it, say goodbye to your civil liberties, maybe even your life.
Because sometimes they are NOT just doing their jobs. Sometimes they are doing illegal things that violate their training and fly in the face of the jobs they have been given. Sometimes somebody needs to watch the watchmen.

Meh, regardless of whether or not she did wrong, the officers had an obligation rise above the situation, a responsibility cops all too often fail at. Cops should never engage in pissing matches; they need to stay calm and collected and reasonable. Too often they adopt a holier than thou, self-righteous attitude.

If she didn't pull a knife or something, did they really have to taze her? Cops are too taze-happy. It's like they think if they don't shoot you, they have the right to assault you in any manner if you're uncooperative. For that matter, some of them seem to think they can shoot you too.

She was detained 100 miles from the border . Interesting . That means that a border guard can detain you when your pulling off the 401 on to a side street in Toronto . Really !!! Would any of you accept that .
The female guard said the lady was nervous . Really . The guard pushed her first . She was defending herself . He assaulted her in the first place . The guard just should have shot and killed her . Border agents have jurisdiction anywhere in Canada. If you land in Calgary they can stop and question and search you if they have suspicion that you are breaking Canadian Law pertaining to persons, or goods entering or exiting Canada. They also go on raids to locations all over Canada for goods or persons that have entered Canada illegally.
I agree but in this case the lady in question was only nervous . Nothing else . Many people get nervous talking to a person with a badge and a gun even if you have done nothing wrong . She was 100 miles from the border . What law was she breaking pertaining to persons or goods entering or leaving the US . Was she under suspicion , being watched . No . None of that . It was just a bitchy border lady who thought that she would make a name for herself and hold up the lady in question.
Like other people have said , they were waiting for a K-9 unite . She had the right to leave . They found nothing in her car or trunk . Looks good on the stupid border guards . Great job . Well done . I hope the lady in question sues their asses off .
Cops in Canada do not have a right to search your trunk when they feel like it . They better have a damn good reason if they wish to .
