I heard Mark Emory, the "King of pot" as he is often disparagingly referred to by the media, being interviewed on CBC radio.
I found myself shouting agreement at the radio over and over.
He is an articulate well spoken guy.
He tied in the government's attitude to marijuana laws and its' whole get tough on crime agenda with Bill C36. He said for the Conservatives the world's divided into sinners and believers, and the sinners have to be punished. He said that's what C36 is all about, prostitutes and their johns are sinners and must be punished.
He also said the Cons are playing to their base, which sees the world in black and white. It only numbers about 100,000, he said, but they have the money. Emory referred to this base as ageing, and unsophisticated.
He also referred to Canada's politicians as being "gutless" (again full agreement here!), because neither the Liberals or the NDP will come out and support him. I would be proud to have him run for my party.
I'm not a pot user and I've never "inhaled", but as Voltaire once said, "I may disagree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
This guy spent four years in prison for his beliefs while the politcal class remained silent, and our governing party actually helped put him there. He's no criminal, he's a national hero.
