Went to MTO, a girl of the same ethnic language works there. HE spoke to her about new one then he simply asked" Why didn't the counter person realized I had to get a licenses renewal done as well? She had no answer.
Then he asked isn't the computer supposed to notify you or isn't there like a check marked required?
There are separate licenses. The guy could have decided to renew the vehicle license without renewing driver license (He might have the vehicle for someone else to drive...)

It isn't up to the Ministry to check into why you are/aren't renewing your driver license.

I agree with you 51% but I am sure 80% plus of the people out there are only getting it for themselves and wife/husband.

Sure but it has nothing to do with MTO people checking if you are renewing your drivers license when you come into renew the vehicle license. It is up to the person being licensed to take appropriate action.

I am not sure the two system are even linked when you go. (I could be wrong about that.)

True, but why would you admit to this? You clearly guilty at least on the expiry part.
Be thankful you weren't operating a commercial vehicle of some sort and are simply a mere civilian screwing up. Those kind of fines and consequences are much more shocking than your story.

basically what papa said.....they sent out letters that your license is expiring so a reminder is already in order

IIRC the last time that I renewed my plates, they wanted to see licence and insurance before they issued the tags.

Just go to court, and if you see the cops there plead guilty with an explanation, which will get the fine reduced. If you don't see them, plead not guilty and charges will be dismissed.

Thats how it is here, expect if the cop shows up you don't get anywhere. Hardly ever do they reduced fines, I seen them even increase them  do to court costs.

But you never know when they may not show up.

court date

Get a court date. If she doesn't show up, you win. If she does show up, plea bargain with her and prosecutor. Then ask for coffee date ;)

I just can't believe this shit, driving through a residential area, come to stop sign at T intersection. [this I admit] Did not come to a complete stop, almost but not fully, saw the cop sitting there, too late, he pulls me over, comes to my window, the partner, not bad looking , young female, braces on teeth, says "So you know why we stopped you", I thought I had not come to a complete stop, "Well you only stopped because you saw us" NOooo.. I sez, thats not the reason but just started looking for my licence because I didn't want to cause any friction, she goes back to car, wait maybe 4 minutes now he is coming.."Get out of truck sir, you will not be driving , you have no licence"
 WHAT!!!! you are mistaken, I am confussed, he shows me my drivers licence that expired July 07....
I'm just floored, I'm saying wait, it must be a mistake somehow, I wasn't notified or something, I know thats no excuse. BUT, how many people know what year there licence expires,,
Now here she comes again, hands me 2 tickets, one for stopping on THE WRONG SIDE OF THE LINE!!! WTF is that....$110
second ticket, driving with no licence.....$325
I walked around the corner, there is a ministry there, got the new licence, went back, showed the cop, pleaded it was just a mistake, my fault? ministries fault? whatever it was JUST A MISTAKE.........
"Tell it to the judge buddy, have a nice day"

LOOOOOSER!!!!

The moral of the story is.....

.... if you're driving without a license come to a complete stop at the stop sign.

In a place far, far away
Isn't it funny how some many people don't want to take responsiblity for their own actions.

Yet another instance of it is society's fault. Perhaps we should open a school :D

Here's a hint:

Driver licence is renewable evey five years on your birthday
Vehicle plate is renewable evey 1 or 2 years on your birthday
