Never been to Chicago but I have a friend who lives there says it's beautiful and kind of similar to Toronto except a lot of shootings on a daily basis even in affluent neighbourhoods.

Just ignore that fool and don't even bother engaging with him.
People like fuji thrive on the fact of arguing with others and always being right, without knowing any facts but always spewing their own beliefs, opinions and ideology which are usually on the opposite side of popular belief and far away from the facts.

Friend said the same thing and that it's happening more often than not. It's just crazy, that's approximately 1 shooting per hour.
Went to this site for Chicago homicides to see if they actually updated the 50 shootings and suspects.
It's just nuts. http://homicides.suntimes.com/calendar/

Make it mandatory everyone 21 and over must posses a handgun to reduce the number of daily shootings in Chicago. Clearly the status quo isn't working.

Oh shit, my bad. Totally forgot to insert the "sarcasm" emoticon... I'm so far the other side of that debate Titalian.

If there was a sarcasm font, you would've known what I meant. ;)

There's been over 6k( six thousand) shootings in Chicago since 2012. That's a war zone. I think the problem is a bit more complex than guns. Especially when other, comparable jurisdictions in America, with less stringent gun laws have but fractions of Chicago's problem. The Chicago politicians kept ignoring the problem for years and the citizens kept voting the same losers back into power. I guess, beyond the internet outrage, they don't mind the carnage.

Chicago has always been a thriving city as NY and will continue to be for obvious reasons. In all aspects, for the most part, the leadership sucks in US. Including the Central Gov. Most of these leaders are all self serving.

That's true, but so was Detroit at one time. And then it wasn't. I'm old enough to remember large parts of New York City looking like third world and its subways a no go zone, after dark. Everything made by man can be unmade and vice versa. Just need a bit of resolve.

Reality check in order:

Those who call for guns to be banned assume that it's just a crazy small minority of people who own guns, and that if you banned them, criminals would somehow see them disappear from their hands. There are over 300 million legal firearms in circulation in the US, owned by at least half that number.. There is no such thing as a magic wand that will just make these firearms disappear. Ain't gonna happen, because there is no political will to do so. Political will is the will of the majority, not the minority.

Banning guns is just talk.

What should be discussed is how to make the US a less violent society, and improve mental health care. Statistics in other countries demonstrate that gun ownership is not a measure of violence.

BOOBS!!!!
It is not guns or gun control. That is not the rot of the problem. IMHO America's big problem is their sense of entitlement. Everyone thinks they deserves the very best all the time and fuck anyone who gets in their way. Forget about talking about if they really deserve it. Now it's not everyone, but give the most entities a gun and all hell breaks loose.

Then there are social issues. Idol hands do the devils work (I think that's the saying). Anyway many at risk youth, of all colours, can be steered away from trouble / gangs / crime etc with more after school programs etc.

I still believe that these programs are investments in the safety of society.

Places without these outlets suffer for it in the long run.

But what the hell do I know I'm just some random online who has never lived in or visited those ruff places.

For the record. I'm a two strikes and you're out kinda guy. Violent crime #1 = 5-25 years. 5 years for those manslaughter type bar deaths. Violent crime #2 proves that you can't or won't live within the rules of society so off with your head.

Very medieval, but I agree 100%.
