My first favorite rapper of all time was Philadelphia's Schoolly D. The original gangsta of rap music. This was 1985. And the main reason I sported Fila gear for the 2nd half of the 80's and early 90's.

"Put Your Fila's On"

One of the many jams that sampled Syl Johnson's "Different Strokes"

Maestro will always be the greatest Canadian rapper ever. This is a classic. Superb sample usage of "These Eyes"

These guys are at Fallsview Casino next weekend. I wish I could be there but I will be up in cottage country.

Man this guy's voice was something special. Raspy and soulful. Did not know this tune was produced by Van McCoy (of The Hustle fame)

"Walk Away From Love"
Van McCoy produced 3 albums for David Ruffin as a solo artist. Van produced them, and also wrote some of the songs.

Many of the songs had McCoy's disco era "Do The Hustle" beat...

Albums:

1975 - Who I Am

1976 - Everything's Coming Up Love

1977 - In My Stride

David Ruffin, Teddy Pendergrass, and Sam Moore of Sam & Dave are my ATF black male vocalists, post Sam Cooke.

Honorable mention: Wilson Pickett :geek:

For X...of course Teddy sang all those loverboy romantic ballads, but this is an up tempo dance type song

A great representation of the early 90's jazz hip hop fusion.

This is definitely a hip hop group that I slept on. Early 2000's. The MC got such a dope handle - Gift of Gab.

Overall an underrated and less noticed Outkast album. They started with gangster rap before pop, this is the definition of it..

Time and time again see I be thinking about that future,
Back in the days when we was slaves I bet we was some cool ass niggas,
But now we vultures, slam my nigga back out,
To make his ass black out, or even pull your fucking heater,
To make his whole crew believers, you're harder than a bitch full of dicks, but that don't be sounding like King Shit to me

Definitely on my top 10 albums. I've been coming back to it for decades.
